Now that Woman of the Hour is streaming on Netflix, people can't stop talking about the chilling true story behind the film.

In the thriller set in the '70s, Anna Kendrick plays the main character, Sheryl Bradshaw, an emerging actress in Hollywood who books a guest spot on a dating show called "The Dating Game," not knowing that soon she'd be meeting notorious serial killer Rodney Alcala on the show.

The Sheryl character is actually based on the real Cheryl Bradshaw, a drama teacher who was selected to be a contestant on the popular ABC dating show in 1978. Here's how the show worked: There were three eligible single men, and at the end of the episode, Cheryl would choose one to go on a date with. Rodney Alcala was bachelor number one, Jed Mills was bachelor number two, and Armand Cerami was bachelor number three.

As the main contestant, Cheryl asked the singles a series of questions to help her determine who she wanted to pick. However, she couldn't see them since they were hidden behind a partition. She didn't actually get to see them face-to-face until the end of the episode. In her episode, Cheryl ends up choosing to go on a date with Rodney because of his charming demeanor and engaging personality, not knowing that it was really all a facade. Rodney was looking for his next victim.

At the time of the show, Cheryl and the audience had no knowledge of Alcala's criminal history, nor did they know that he was currently in the middle of a killing spree. But Cheryl knew something was off once she met him for the first time. According to Investigation Discovery, they were supposed to take tennis lessons together and then go to Magic Mountain amusement park. But Cheryl decided to cancel the date shortly after the taping of the show because she found Rodney to be creepy, which raised red flags for her.

She called up the show producers to inform them of her decision to bow out of the date, and they were supportive of her choice. Due to her instinctive decision to not go on a date with Rodney, it likely saved her life. Rodney would go on to sexually assault and murder more young women and girls until his arrest in July 1979.

So, where is Cheryl Bradshaw today? Well, her current whereabouts are unknown. Since her appearance on The Dating Game, she has largely maintained a low profile, avoiding the spotlight and focusing on her life away from the public eye. However, we do know what she decided to do after appearing on the dating show.

At the end of Woman of the Hour, it was revealed that Cheryl left California to live a private life and raise a family. After going through such a traumatic experience, it makes sense why she would prefer to keep her personal affairs private. We wish her the best wherever she is!

Woman of the Hour is streaming now only on Netflix.
