Here's when, where, and how you can stream The Substance at home

Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley are earning rave reviews for their performances in one of this year's best movies, the wonderfully grotesque and provocative The Substance from director Coralie Fargeat.

Fargeat, whose previous credits include the equally acclaimed rape-revenge movie Revenge, also wrote the script for The Substance, which stars Moore as Elisabeth Sparkles, a famous aerobics instructor struggling to maintain her relevancy in an industry intent on casting her out now that she's in her 50s. Desperate to reclaim her youth, Elisabeth indulges in a sketchy serum known as The Substance to horrific results.

It's recommended to watch The Substance in theaters if possible, preferably with a big crowd. There are some genuine shocks and outlandish sequences best experienced with a bunch of gasping participants beside you. But seeing as the film received a limited release, that's not feasible for everyone.

Thankfully, distributor Mubi is bringing the movie home to streaming for a particularly frightful Halloween!

How to sign-up for Mubi

The Substance officially begins streaming on Thursday, October 31, and, at least for now, the body horror film will be exclusive to Mubi.

Though Mubi is a lesser-known streaming service, it's actually a great service for film fans, hosting tons of classics ad-free. They also offer a 7-day free trial, meaning, if you prefer, you can sign up for the trial to watch The Substance and then cancel before getting charged.

If you decide you want to purchase a monthly subscription, they start at $14.99/month after the initial free trial period. There is also an annual payment option that offers a 33% discount, meaning it would be $9.99/month but you pay $119.88 upfront.
