You might not always be in the mood for straight-up horror. You've watched enough ghosts and creepy kids to last a lifetime. Sometimes, you just want a story that’s more quirky than terrifying. Something that has a horror vibe, but also makes you laugh along the way. The kind of film that creeps you out just enough, then hits you with a perfectly timed punchline.
A24 is the company you should turn to for this type of content. The indie powerhouse has either crafted or distributed some of the most wickedly funny movies that deliver chills and chuckles in equal measure. Below, we shared four must-see A24 horror comedies that you'll likely find yourself laughing at more than screaming.
Death of a Unicorn (2025)
Death of a Unicorn is one of A24's most recent horror releases, and it stars two very talented actors, one of whom is well-known for their work in comedies and the other in horror. Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega play as father and daughter, Elliot and Ridley Kinter. Elliot decides to take Ridley with him to his wealthy boss's estate for the weekend, but their trip takes a dark turn after they accidentally hit a unicorn on their way there.
In a moment of panic, they load the injured mythical creature into their car and press on, only to soon realize this decision will have dire consequences. Upon arrival, Elliot’s boss uncovers the unicorn’s magical healing abilities and intends to exploit them for personal benefit. But shortly after, the unicorn's very angry parents arrive on a revenge mission against those who have harmed their baby.
Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022)
You'll definitely get your laughs with Bodies Bodies Bodies. There's so much witty banter and dark comedy packed into the chaos that it keeps the mood light, even as the tension builds and the body count rises. The story revolves around a group of friends who decide to throw a party at a mansion while a hurricane rages outside. But what starts as fun quickly turns deadly when a party game goes wrong, and suspicion and paranoia begin to tear the group apart as they try to figure out who among them is murdering them one by one.
Life After Beth (2014)
Life After Beth might be a zombie film, but it's not your typical undead horror. Rather than featuring hordes of flesh-eating zombies hunting for victims, it focuses on the complex and often darkly funny dynamic between a grieving boyfriend and his girlfriend, who has come back to life but isn’t quite the same person anymore. The film combines dark humor with a quirky romance, delving into what happens when someone you love returns from the dead, only to be replaced by someone unpredictable and unsettling.
Slice (2018)
If you're looking for a horror movie that’s more playful and strange than purely scary, Slice could be right up your alley. It's a quirky, genre-blending film that mixes murder mystery, supernatural creatures, and a touch of comedy. Set in the fictional small town of Kingfisher, Slice centers on a series of murders involving pizza delivery drivers. Astrid, a worker at a local haunted pizzeria, joins forces with Dax, a werewolf and ex-delivery guy, to get to the bottom of it. Their investigation leads them into a bizarre world filled with ghosts, witches, and a portal to hell.
