Disney+ is reportedly in the development stage for a new Werewolf by Night Halloween special. While there have been some mixed reactions among Marvel Cinematic Universe fans regarding recent productions, fans and critics generally felt this Halloween special was outstanding. Nothing is official, as neither Marvel nor Disney+ confirmed anything, but welcome rumors emerged.
Jack Russell, the Werewolf, and the other Marvel horrors, who may return
Werewolf by Night first aired on October 7, 2022, and introduced live-action fans to Jack Russell, a monster hunter/werewolf who becomes entangled in a dark adventure involving the enigmatic Bloodstone. The original comic series, which ran only 43 issues when published by Marvel from 1972 to 1977, was one of the most well-regarded horror titles of the Bronze Age. The rumored WBN Disney+ special may feature the return of some characters, which can further help establish the darker, Midnight Sons-inspired supernatural element of the MCU.
Along with Elsa Bloodstone, it's believed that the Man-Thing will reappear. The mysterious and silent swamp creature, whose touch burns those experiencing fear, is a great supporting character. The Man-Thing had its own, now somewhat forgotten, cable film, but it never lived up to the weird wonder of the original early 1970s Marvel comic book. A second appearance in a WBN special could set the course for a Man-Thing special one Halloween.
What other creepy Marvel characters could show up alongside Werewolf by Night?
Speculation swirls about who else might appear on the special. Moon Knight would be a brilliant cameo since the character debuted in issues 32 and 33 of the Werewolf by Night comic. What about other antiheroic characters from The Midnight Sons, like Blade, Morbius, Son of Satan Daimon Hellstrom, or the Danny Ketch version of Ghost Rider? We'll see. And will surely see Blade on the big screen once again, as a new Blade movie is officially confirmed. A Midnight Sons monster/supernatural hero team ensemble film is believed to be in development. If the project goes forward, it could be one of the MCU's most unique movies.
As for villains, no one knows for sure. Among the most brutal characters that would be perfect for the series are the Hangman, a scythe and noose-wielding vigilante. You could also see another sympathetic werewolf, Raymond Coker, once pitted against Jack in one of the best story arcs of the original comic. And what about Marvel's version of Dracula? Tomb of Dracula was its most successful horror comic, and would Disney be willing to set up Dracula's role in this special? We wish.
