I Saw the TV Glow

I feel like I Saw the TV Glow is never mentioned when there are discussions about the best horror movies of 2024, and I'm about to change that. I mean, it's easily one of A24's best horror films. I can tell you that!

It might not be the movie for everyone, but if you connect with the story, it will hit you hard. It's not your typical horror film where there is no thought involved. It's a psychological horror, so you'll need to pick your brain in order to know what's going on. That's my type of horror flick, though, so I was thoroughly entertained throughout.

The story centers around two troubled high school students whose deep connection to a mysterious TV show leads them to question both their perception of reality and their personal identities. Justice Smith and Brigette Lundy-Paine star as the troubled teens, Owen and Maddy, both giving outstanding performances. Helena Howard, Lindsey Jordan, Conner O'Malley, Emma Portner, Ian Foreman, Fred Durst, and Danielle Deadwyler join them in the cast.

Josh Hartnett as Cooper in Trap

Trap

Josh Hartnett made his return to horror with Trap, and the casting team couldn't have cast anyone better. Seriously! 2x Oscar nominee M. Night Shyamalan wrote, produced, and directed this film. In Trap, Hartnett plays a dangerous, sociopathic serial killer known as "the Butcher" who, while attending a concert with his daughter, finds himself having to evade a police blockade set up to catch him.

If you're a fan of Shyamalan's work, you'd know that he's known for his unique twists in his films. Don't worry. There are several twists and turns in Trap to keep you engaged. If you haven't already watched this movie, what are you waiting for?

Dylan O'Brien in Caddo Lake

Caddo Lake

So, Caddo Lake is the only film on this list that wasn't released in theaters before coming to streaming. It's actually a Max original movie that's more of a mystery-thriller with horror elements. Produced by M. Night Shyamalan, the story follows the mystery centered around an eight-year-old girl who vanishes in a mysterious body of water called Caddo Lake. With her disappearance, a series of past deaths and disappearances start to link together, which causes an already broken family to become broken even more.

The talented cast is made up of Dylan O'Brien, Eliza Scanlen, Diana Hopper, Caroline Falk, Sam Hennings, Eric Lange, and Lauren Ambrose.

Mia Goth in MaXXXine

MaXXXine

If you watched the other two movies in Ti West's X trilogy, then you must watch the third and final installment, MaXXXine. Mia Goth returns in her role as aspiring actress Maxine Minx, who was the sole survivor of the Texas farmhouse massacre in X (2022). Six years have passed since she lost her fellow cast and crew, and now she's living in Los Angeles, finally about to get her big break. However, she finds her plans thwarted by the haunting of her past and a mysterious killer who has set their sights on her.
