Bruce Campbell: The mythos of Ash and other revelations

Bruce Campbell hits the road for his 35-city tour to promote his latest book, Hail to the Chin on August 14.  At 1428 Elm we found out some season three hot revelations on the mythos of Ash as well as his thoughts on what the future might hold in store for him on a personal level.

Ash Williams is a hero for the ordinary man.

The Heroic Journey

In 1949, author Joseph Campbell wrote the compelling treatise, The Hero with a Thousand Faces. In it the journey of a conqueror was chronicled. We all know the universal motif of an ordinary man who through circumstances beyond his control gets propelled into an extraordinary situation where he must rise to the occasion. Sound familiar, Ash vs Evil Dead fans?

Ash Williams is an average, blue collar guy. He just wants to toss back some Shemp’s, dance like a maniac in his trailer and pick up chicks at The Woodsman at last call. Is he the person that is going to save the world from evil? Don’t laugh. The fate of the universe just might rest on his broad shoulders.

Heavy Mettle

According to an interview in Dread Central, Ash vs Evil Dead fans are in for a real wild ride in season three. From what Bruce Campbell says, the wait for the premiere is going to be worth it. “Ash not only has to save the world, but he’s back in his small town, and things start great. So, he’s saved his town, and now he’s going to cash in on it – he’s the hero. Things won’t all be well, because the mythology’s going to kick in now.”

Campbell went on to relate, “Season 3 is where it all will come to a head – the ultimate mettle of the average man will be tested by these demonic forces, and if man fails, then evil will rule the earth – those are the stakes.” By all accounts, this certainly sounds epic. The quintessential battle where the risks are high but the outcome alters life as we know it.

Sounds as if Starz is sitting on one hell of a show! This definitely amps up the need to see AVED3 sooner rather than later. After reading these revelations, I am certain fans will be clamoring for their chainsaw wielding champion’s triumphant return!

Starring Bruce Campbell as the Scribe

While Ash vs Evil Dead looms large on the horizon, what is in the cards for the man that brings the show to life? Answering the question if he could only do one (choices being actor, director, producer writer) which would he choose? His answer may be shocking to his legion of fans.

“I’d be a writer – book writer.” If you have read his previous novels, If Chins Could Kill and Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way, you can definitely see he has a way with words. No matter what the future holds for this cult icon, his loyal admirers will undoubtedly support his efforts!
