Bruce Campbell: Ash vs Evil Dead downloading alternatives
In a recent interview with Good Day LA, Bruce Campbell brought up the topic of illegal downloading again. This has become a constant concern for the actor and other members of the cast as the threat of cancellation hangs over Ash vs Evil Dead. However, we at 1428 Elm did some research and maybe some of these alternate methods can assist those fans that are having trouble finding the show.
“STARZ was like, hey, I thought you guys had fans. We do have fans.”- Bruce Campbell
You Can’t Stop It
I was watching Jon Favreau’s, Dinner for Five with Roger Corman, Rob Zombie and Bruce Campbell. The year was 2005. They were talking about commercials before movies and Rob brought up the fact that he hates the illegal downloading one.
In his words, “I’m in the f**king theater, I just paid my money, I’m not downloading your f**king movie.” To which Bruce replied, “As if you’re going to stop it. That’s what kills me.” He also went on to say that he told his neighbors to “Netflix a movie and they replied, ‘we’ll just download it.’”
Segue to twelve years later and Campbell is still discussing that topic. Instead of talking about the ramifications of illegal downloading, in this article I am going to present some possible alternatives. Despite what people think there are ways to obtain the show through STARZ.
STARZ Play Arabia
Variety announced in 2014 that STARZ was going to launch a streaming service in conjunction with Peter Ekelund’s Swedish media group Parsifal Entertainment. This was the same outfit that assisted HBO in setting up their streaming services in the Nordic countries.
The result of this collaboration is called STARZ play. This package is obtainable in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Latin America. Broadband TV News in 2015 talked about STARZ Play Arabia.
This initiative was launched in seventeen countries. Bahrain, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates have STARZ Play Arabia now. Other countries where the service is accessible include: Algeria, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Palestine, and Tunisia.
Ash vs Evil Dead is available on STARZ Play Arabia. The service is also running a 30 Day Free Trial.
Vimeo
Yes, the popular video giant Vimeo partnered with Lionsgate last year and brought AVED with them according to Tubefilter. Their Global Television Store caters to 150 countries. However, the beloved Deadite slaying show is only offered in certain ones.
The UK fans apparently have a tough time obtaining Virgin Media Online in particular areas. While I can’t state specifically the regions Vimeo can be used in, it is another possible outlet for obtaining this awesome show.
There are residents in other European countries that have a hard time finding the show as well. Here is the list of availability for AVED; Australia, Canada, France, UK, Japan, Puerto Rico and the US.
If your location is not listed, here is the reason why according to the Vimeo help center. Some titles may have different distribution agreements for different global regions. For this reason, some of the titles on vimeo.com/ondemand are only available for purchase in certain countries.
If the title you want to watch isn’t currently available in your region, you’re welcome to reach out to the creator for more information (via the “Message” button on the title’s Vimeo On Demand page). They may be able to tell you where you can watch it in your country.
They also offer a free trial. I have included their plans. Click on the highlighted word to see more information. Vimeo even has one that is at 0 cost to you!
Where There Is a Will…
Obviously, certain segments of the fanbase will continue to use Torrent or other illegal methods to get Ash vs Evil Dead. However, alternatives do exist.
If you live in a remote area, research online to find out what services are available. Yes, this will take legwork but in the end, you get to watch your favorite show! Look, everyone wants AVED to continue beyond Season 3.
