Bruce Campbell: Pay for Ash vs Evil Dead or it will be cancelled!

Ash vs Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell was at Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore in San Diego, California this past week to promote his New York Times best seller, Hail to the Chin. Nerdrotic Podcast happened to catch his reading on video. He had a blunt and very straightforward message to fans of his beleaguered series.

“Life is that simple.” – Bruce Campbell

Stirring the Pot

Promoting his bestselling autobiography, Hail to the Chin at the Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore in San Diego, California this past week, Ash vs Evil Dead star, Bruce Campbell had an important message for fans of his STARZ series.

For most of this year, AVED’s network, STARZ remained tight lipped about the start date for season three. Even the series stars didn’t have a clue as to what was going on. Then at New York Comic Con the announcement was made that the show would be returning on February 25, 2018 at 9 P.M.

While this was great news, the future still remains uncertain. Presently, no word on renewal is forthcoming. Campbell was quite vocal about what was happening with the franchise. Illegal downloading is killing the show.

After numerous attempts to make this clear to the fans, it appears nothing was getting through to them. Those people that were downloading were going to continue to do so, no matter what. Then the complaints started.

“We don’t get STARZ where we live.” “Why does the network not offer other alternatives?” “What about taking the show to Netflix or Hulu?” Of course, all of those questions are legitimate. They do deserve answers.

However, this topic was causing rancorous debates online. When the media got a hold of this story, all hell broke loose and the nasty comments started flying right and left. Let’s just say that I had my fair share of them at 1428 Elm along with Screen Rant and Screen Geek.

The bottom line is the network was telling Campbell and company that the ratings made it look like they didn’t have fans because of the illegal downloading issue. This is just a vicious cycle that keeps spinning around and around with no end in sight.

Stop pirating the show, screwheads!

Alternatives Exist

We presented alternatives for those underserved areas in an article I wrote citing various outlets that were associated with STARZ such as Vimeo and STARZ Play Arabia.

Today after doing some research, I have also found out that Roku and Sling TV offer STARZ. So, if you are willing to go online and do a Google search for “legal alternatives to not getting the STARZ app,” you will find many legitimate resources that are approved by the network.

Currently, STARZ is advertising their free 7-day trial for their app and they are tying this in with a campaign to recruit new viewers to AVED. They are offering a Halloween marathon of the series.

1428 Elm, the Bring Back Boomstick Community on Facebook, bringbackboomstick.com, Change.org petition creator Charlie Mazal, Abby Fagan and Dino Lorenzo of Bruce on the Loose podcast and the entire Bruce Campbell Fan Club have all banded together to try and save this show.

We are actively promoting AVED to people, telling them how they can find the series as well as recruiting friends, family members and others through social media. The more people that watch the show, subscribe to STARZ or STARZ approved services, will demonstrate to the network that the fanbase is solid and viewership is strong.

In other words, AVED is worth renewing.

50 Seconds to Go

This situation has gotten to the point where Bruce Campbell is now cutting to the chase. At his recent book signing in San Diego, he told the audience when AVED was returning to the network. But then he didn’t pull any punches with his next statements.

In the last fifty seconds on the video by Nerdrotic Podcast, Campbell breaks it down for everyone. He tells them when the show is returning to STARZ. “Don’t give me that blank look. Download that app or it will be cancelled. Pay for it or it will be cancelled. Life is that simple. If you want more, pay for it.”

There it is everyone. Right from the series star and executive producer. It doesn’t get more direct than that.
