The X-Files: Top 10 monster of the week characters from the show
The X-Files standalone monster of the week episodes are definite fan favorites. So much so that season eleven will feature eight stories devoted to that topic. Here is our list of the top ten creatures from the show.
“It’s easier to believe in monsters out there in the world than to accept that the real monsters dwell within us.” – Dr. Rumanovitch

Now, let’s get started with the Top Ten creatures from the show!
The X-Files – Guy Mann – Courtesy of Fox
Guy Mann – (Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster) Guy (Rhys Darby) is a lizard creature that was bitten by a human. So, as a result he periodically morphs into one and is able to make a living as a Smartphone sales manager. At the end of the episode, he ends up hibernating for ten thousand years so that he can stave off his transformations.
The X-Files – Chinga – Courtesy of Fox
Chinga – (Chinga) This particular episode was penned by Stephen King because he wanted to write for the show. Chinga is the story of a lobsterman named Rich who gifts his daughter with said doll. Unfortunately, much like Annabelle, she is possessed by an evil entity.
The X-Files – Hank Gulatarski – Courtesy of Fox
Hank Gulatarski – (Roadrunners) Scully ends up in a remote town in Utah where she gets involved with a bizarre cult that worships a parasite. This episode is cringe inducing because the parasite attaches itself to its host via their spine. Hank (David Barry Gray) has the misfortune of having the parasite removed only to be stoned to death. Scully becomes the unwilling recipient of the creature.
The X-Files – Soul Eater – Courtesy of Fox
Soul Eater – (The Gift) This is a rather sad tale. The Soul Eater is imprisoned by the town of Squamash, Pennsylvania and forced to treat their maladies. Basically, the creature consumes the person with the disease and then vomits them up as a soupy substance. The substance becomes the afflicted person who is healthy again and free from their sickness.
Monster Mash 2
Soul Eater – (The Gift) Agent Doggett (Robert Patrick) lands in Pennsylvania trying to track down Mulder who went missing from Squamash. He ends up discovering the creature and meets his demise trying to save it. The Soul Eater who is thankful to Doggett digs him up from his grave, consumes him and regurgitates him. After doing that, the being dies.
The X-Files – Betsy Monroe – Courtesy of Fox
Betsy Monroe – (Terms of Endearment) Betsy (Grace Phillips) is the second wife of demon, Wayne Weinsider (Bruce Campbell). Like Wayne, she harbors her own secret. Prior to him, she was only able to conceive human children. Betsy is a demoness who was fortunate enough to mate with Wayne. In the end, she gets what she wants a demonic child.
The X-Files – Donnie Pfaster – Courtesy of Fox
Donnie Pfaster– (Irresistible) One of the most disturbing shows in the series. Donnie (Nick Chinlund) was an ex-funeral home employee with a fetish. He liked to collect hair and nails from dead bodies. This activity escalated and he began turning to living women. The creepiest scene ever is when he eats a victim’s hair. Ew!
The X-Files – Colonist – Courtesy of Fox
Colonist – (Patient X) This was one of my favorite mythological arc episodes. The Syndicate is realizing that there is a resistance group of aliens that is trying to prevent the colonization of Earth. However, the Well-Manicured Man informs Mulder that they were developing a cure against the alien virus. One of the alien bounty hunters sheds his human appearance to reveal that he is a grey.
Top Two Creatures
The X-Files – Wayne Weinsider – Courtesy of Fox
Wayne Weinsider – (Terms of Endearment) Wayne (Bruce Campbell) is a demon with feelings who is looking to produce a human child. His first wife, Laura (Lisa Jane Persky) is pregnant and after the sonogram some anomalies are found. In other words, the child has horns and scales like Wayne’s true appearance.
Wayne ends up removing the child from his wife’s womb and killing it. Unbeknownst to him, his second wife Betsy is a demoness and she has conceived a demonic child. Before he can destroy the child, he figures out her plan and he ends up getting shot by his brother-in-law who is a sheriff.
The X-Files – Eugene Victor Tooms – Courtesy of Fox
Eugene Victor Tooms – (Squeeze) What a distressing episode! Over twenty years later and I still shiver when I think about this character. Born in 1873, Eugene (Doug Hutchison) keeps appearing throughout history. He is a genetic mutant serial killer who can contort himself to get into the smallest of spaces and he has a weird nutritional requirement. He eats human livers and before going into a thirty year hibernation makes a “nest” out of bile. Yuck!
The Winner!
The X-Files- Flukeman 2 – Courtesy of Fox
Flukeman – (The Host) This is my favorite monster of all! Flukeman is the result of the unfortunate breeding between a human embryo and a fluke parasite in the sewer system in New Jersey. Of course, the genesis of this creature was the result of radiation from Chernobyl. The way that Flukeman kills its victims is through attaching its scolex onto a human body and injecting it with a flatworm. Thus, reproducing itself and killing the human host. Let’s just say I had second thoughts about the shower after seeing this episode!

Just watching that clip made me shudder!
