Zac Efron is Ted Bundy in his latest movie, Extremely Wicked

Everyone knows Zac Efron as the pretty boy who is all about charming the ladies and getting laughs. However, that is about to change…

Society wants to believe it can identify evil people, or bad or harmful people, but it’s not practical. There are no stereotypes.” – Ted Bundy

The Stranger Next Door

I am a huge Ann Rule fan. For whatever reason, I enjoy reading true crime novels. One of Ann’s most famous books was about Ted Bundy called The Stranger Beside Me.

She happened to be a colleague of his at a suicide prevention hotline. By all accounts, Bundy, one of the most prolific serial killers of modern times, was charming, gregarious and a chick magnet. Knowing what I did about Bundy when I heard that Zac Efron (of High School Musical fame) is portraying him in an upcoming film, I was extremely skeptical.

That is until the other day on Twitter. I happened to see Efron’s behind the scenes tweet of him as Ted Bundy in Extremely Wicked. Then his casting made sense.

According to MTV News, Joe Berlinger’s Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile currently has no release date. What’s interesting about this take on Bundy is that it’s done from the viewpoint of his longtime girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer, who turned a blind eye to his shocking deeds until eventually turning him in.

Lily Collins (daughter of music legend, Phil Collins) portrays Liz. She also added a portrait of herself in character to Instagram.

When you think about it, Zac Efron is perfect for the role of Ted Bundy. Bundy had the same bedroom blue eyes, he was very polite and seemed like the ultimate catch for any single woman. This is pretty much Efron’s image.

That Bundy Charm

Bundy’s looks actually worked for him when he selected his victims. One of his ruses was used in The Silence of the Lambs. He used to feign a broken arm and then ask unsuspecting women if they could help him pick something up.

Then he would hit them over the head with his fake cast and take them to their deaths. Pretty chilling but let’s face it, Efron has the same type of allure that Bundy had so you could almost see him doing the same thing.

This type of role could be career making if Efron’s portrayal is spot on. You know that audiences are going to come to the theater in droves just to see if he can pull this off. However, his legion of female fans may not welcome him as a stone cold serial killer.

I am reserving judgment until I see him in the role. He just might be able to win me over.
