Sam Raimi in talks to direct Patrick Rothfuss’ The Name of the Wind
The geek world went into hyperdrive yesterday when it was announced that legendary director, Sam Raimi was in talks to take the helm of Patrick Rothfuss’ The Name of the Wind.

The Background
For those of you that may not be familiar with this fantasy series, The Kingkiller Chronicle tells the story of Kvothe, an itinerant and musician. He is a rogue as well as a wizard and delights in recounting his escapades to Devan Lochees (Chronicler).
The Name of the Wind is the first book in author Patrick Rothfuss’ trilogy. Most of the novel deals with Kvothe’s past however it also delves into his present. It is a tale of loss, love and demon fighting.
Naturally, Rothfuss counts as his influences, George R.R. Martin and J.R.R. Tolkien. Rothfuss was also the recipient of the prestigious Quill award in 2007.
Enter Sam Raimi
In 2016, it was announced in Variety that Lin-Manuel Miranda, the star of the hit Broadway musical Hamilton would be the force behind Showtime’s Kingkiller Chronicle series as well as a producer on the upcoming film adaptation. Miranda would also helm any future video game efforts.

Of course, stage rights have also been optioned in case the talented thespian decides to return to Broadway. Lin will also compose the music and songs for both mediums.
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group will be behind both the television and film productions. Segue to 2018 and what other talent enters the picture none other than Sam Raimi. Raimi as any fan of Ash vs Evil Dead knows has a relationship with Lionsgate since they purchased STARZ which is the home of Ash.
According to Variety and Tor.com, Raimi is in negotiations to helm the film adaptation. Lindsey Beer who is currently attached to the upcoming Godzilla vs Kong and Dungeons and Dragons epic as a writer will be penning the Kingkiller Chronicle screenplay.
This is exciting news for Raimi fans who have been waiting for another project since 2013’s Oz the Great and Powerful. Last year it was reported that he had a development deal with SkyDance and was looking to direct a film on the Bermuda Triangle.
The release date for the Showtime series as well as the film has not been revealed. As things progress, word will probably be forthcoming in the future.
