Ash vs Evil Dead: Deadite makeover with a blood gun facial
IGN entertainment editor, Lucy O’Brien is living an Ash vs Evil Dead fan’s dream. She gets transformed into a Deadite and shot with a blood gun by Bruce Campbell. It doesn’t get much better than that!
“I don’t enjoy any blood in my face regardless of how it’s delivered.” – Bruce Campbell
Business as Usual
Lucy O’Brien, Entertainment editor for IGN, is one lucky gal. Not only did she get to hang out with Bruce Campbell but she got to be a Deadite for a day. Oh yeah, and did we mention she gets hit with a blood gun?
Not your typical day at the office. In a new video released on January 29, viewers got to watch as makeup FX artists transformed O’Brien from a journalist into a minion of the Dark Ones. The photography is time lapsed so it looks pretty cool.
Just that experience alone would leave most Ash vs Evil Dead fans weak in the knees. However, the pièce de résistance is the fact she gets slimed by a blood gun. Guess who is handling that particular boomstick?
None other than Bruce Campbell, Ash Williams himself! Now, that is pretty awesome. Of course, after years of dealing with the unpleasant substance, Campbell seems to delight in initiating newbie, O’Brien.

Bruce’s steps for creating life’s elixir:
- Get clear Karo syrup NOT the dark. (Trust me on this one. If you do, you will regret it).
- Empty half of the bottle into a bowl.
- Add a bottle of red food coloring.
- Pour in nondairy Coffee Mate. (You don’t want any curdling}. However, if this is unavailable, you can use the liquid.
- Whip up the mixture. Make sure that it isn’t lumpy. It should be opaque in color.
- Augment with one or two drops of blue food coloring. Why? It cuts the red so that it doesn’t get too pink. However, if you use too much blue, you will end up with purple. Test it on a white surface.
The Aftermath
We get to see in slow motion the splatter show aftermath when Bruce fires the gun. Blood spurts out and covers O’Brien’s face as well as her chest. Apparently, it is cold because you can see the IGN editor shivering.
According to Bruce, “You have been blasted with nozzle six. When they get very fine, they can actually hurt more because they are very directed. We actually went easy on you today. I’ll expect $100 in my trailer before the end of the day.”
You can catch the Season 3 premiere of Ash vs Evil Dead on Feb. 25 at 9 p.m. on STARZ.
