Ash vs Evil Dead ratings are in for episode 6 Tales from the Rift. Is the increase in numbers too little and too late?

“I’m done being f***** with.” – Kelly Maxwell

Pins and Needles

Yesterday, Ash vs Evil Dead fans were anxiously awaiting the numbers for episode 6, Tales from the Rift. Anticipation was at an all time high because of the incredible fight scene between Ruby (Lucy Lawless) and Kelly Maxwell (Dana DeLorenzo).

Also memorable because Kelly met an untimely demise. For five weeks the ratings for the show have been on a continuous decline despite the cast encouraging viewers to download the app and watch live.

Then a curious thing happened. For some reason, numbers were not available for the show. It appeared as if it had fallen out of the top 150 Original Cable Telecasts list at Showbuzz Daily. This caused rampant speculation across the internet that bad news was imminent.

Oops!

As it turns out, the show wasn’t appearing on the chart because STARZ listed AVED as a rerun even though it was in actuality a new show. However, the series was the talk of all social media and is still resonating days afterward. That being said, the numbers are still a concern.

Social content ratings (chatter measured on social media platforms) count but not nearly as much as views for networks when they consider renewing a show. Last week, the 18-49 demographic average was at .08. It remains the same for this week.

179,000 viewers tuned into the show last week. Tales from the Rift brought in 196,000 viewers which is an increase of 17,000 audience members. Now, these are preliminary figures which means that the app and the Live + 7 (DVR) views are not factored in yet either.

The season average goes up from 182,000 to 185,000 for viewers. So, that 17,000 viewers spike only brought in 3,000 viewers on average. When you compare these numbers to Season 2 averages the overall rating was 0.16 and 308,000 viewers.

Be Cautious

The bottom line is that even with an upturn of 17,000 viewers this feels like too little and too late. There are only three more episodes left after Twist and Shout airs this Sunday. At this point in time, the fate of AVED’s renewal lies with STARZ.

It may be time for fans to sit back and enjoy the remainder of the series. If this is it, let’s send the cast off with a bang by tuning in and showing our appreciation for three terrific seasons. However, it is television and things can be unpredictable should there be a Season 4, it will definitely be a welcome surprise and a cause to celebrate.
