Ash Wednesday: Bruce Campbell – I’m not a spandex kind of guy

Three years ago, the Pedal Powered Talk Show caught up with Bruce Campbell in Portland. Ever wonder what he does when he isn’t pressing the flesh at Cons? Well, it doesn’t involve spandex.

“Rules of Lollygagging – Must be outdoors. Not at home. Not at work. No agenda. Active inactivity. No devices, except to take pix of course!” – Bruce Campbell

On the Job

Anyone who’s familiar with Bruce Campbell knows that he has been a favorite on the Convention circuit for years. As a matter of fact, he just finished a tour in the UK and Germany doing several events.

Cons attract thousands of people and the venues can become jampacked. For celebrities that attend the gatherings it is a whirlwind of non-stop meet and greets.

After that deluge of activity over two or three days, the natural inclination for anyone would be to decompress. What exactly does Bruce Campbell do to unwind?

Three years ago, Bruce was doing Wizard World in Portland when the Pedal Powered Talk Show caught up with him in between gigs. They were also interested in finding out what he does on his down time.

Here is a snippet of that interview:

PPTS:  After having a ton of social interaction what do you want to do after a weekend like this?

BC: Disappear. Go on a hike somewhere, ride my bicycle.

PPTS: So, you are a cyclist yourself?

BC:  I am. I’m not the spandex kind of guy with the $1200 bike that weighs one ounce. I’m a lollygagger.

For fans of Bruce Campbell, the word lollygagging is a familiar term that has a very specific set of rules which we covered last year at 1428 Elm. He’s such an avid enthusiast of bicycling that he currently owns an electric bike which he uses to traverse the Bear Creek Greenway in Southern Oregon whenever he can.
