10. Down by the Water – PJ Harvey (S01 E05 The Host)

An interesting songstress, Polly Jean Harvey was popular in the ’90s and a staple on alternative radio stations. This song is haunting and very sexy. However, the lyrics are another story.

Essentially, the woman who is featured in the lyrics is lamenting the fact that her daughter has been taken from her.

"Oh, help me Jesus Come through this storm I had to lose her To do her harm I heard her holler I heard her moan My lovely daughter I took her home"

In the Ash vs Evil Dead episode, The Host, this tune plays in the background while Ruby and Amanda are driving in the car. Using Ash’s severed hand as a GPS they are on the hunt for the Deadite Slayer.

Meanwhile, Ash and the Ghostbeaters are with Pablo’s uncle, Brujo while he attempts to exorcise a demon from Kelly. Ash also goes on a “trip” with the help of hallucinogens and realizes that in order to win the fight against evil he needs to “shoot first and think never.”

Pablo begins to understand that even though he walked away from his uncle’s teachings, he may in fact be more attuned to being a shaman than he previously thought.
