Evil Dead 2 is an iconic film. Starring Bruce Campbell and directed by Sam Raimi, it is a splatstick masterpiece full of non-stop action and Deadites! So, what happens, when you mix the fun of an escape room with this amazing horror franchise? You get the officially licensed Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn by Hourglass Escapes LLC!
Escape rooms are a fun experience to try at least once in your life. I did an escape room once where I was stuck in an ancient Egyptian tomb. The concept to me is like being in a live action video game like Uncharted or Resident Evil and it is truly a great time.
According to the press release, Hourglass Escapes was given the go ahead to create the attraction by Studiocanal S.A.S. The company has already made some great escape games like Rise of the Mad Pharoah (named one of the top three best escape rooms in Seattle by EscapeRoomTips.com) and The Ghostly Galleon. Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn is set to be a scary and immersive experience.
"“When players enter that all-too-familiar cabin in the woods, they will have until dawn (or sixty minutes, whichever comes first) to find the Kandarian dagger and destroy the book of the dead before the evil dead swallows their souls. Fans of the classic film can expect deadites, chainsaws, a very strange deer head, a chained-up cellar door, and plenty of horrifying surprises, including a cameo by Twin Peaks star Andrea Hays.”"
That sounds absolutely amazing for both fans of escape rooms and for fans of horror films. The co-creator of Hourglass is Seth Wolfson who spent time at Universal Studio Orlando working on scenic animatronics and wax figures at Ripley’s Believe It or Not.
He is joined on the project by Regan MacStravic (Safety Not Guaranteed) in set and prop design, Tom Pierson (Z Nation) in makeup FX, Ben Rock (the production designer and creator of the stickman from The Blair Witch Project, co-writer and director of Video Palace) in video design, and David Chestnut who is a veteran escape room composer.

Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn is set to open in Seattle, WA in July for visitors ages 13 and older. Wolfson had this to say about working on his passion project:
"“Every part of the design phase we stop and ask if this fits into the Evil Dead 2™ universe. We want this to be a great Evil Dead 2™ experience and a well-respected escape room on its own merit…It’s an honor to be the first team ever entrusted with creating an escape room out of my all-time favorite horror film. It’s a dream come true.”"
If you are a fan of the Evil Dead franchise, I think this is going to be a great experience, especially if they can replicate the scary and silly feeling of the films. Start planning your summer vacation trip, but maybe leave the boomstick at home for this one.
