Child’s Play: Mark Hamill to voice Chucky in anticipated reboot
The cast for Lars Klevberg’s Child’s Play is officially complete, with Mark Hamill on board to voice the new Chucky.
We’ve already met the new Buddi doll and everything that comes with it, we’ve met the main cast, and we’ve seen the first trailer. There’s nothing missing for the new Child’s Play movie, right? Well, there’s actually one important detail that hadn’t been revealed: the voice of the new Chucky.
This new Child’s Play doesn’t have franchise creator Don Mancini on board nor Brad Dourif, who voiced Chucky in all seven movies from the franchise and will reprise his role in the upcoming TV series, so the spot was open for a new voice. Have you heard about this guy, Mark Hamill?
During Orion’s panel at WonderCon this weekend, the studio revealed that Hamill will voice the evil doll in this new version according to Deadline. The announcement came in the shape of a video where Hamill himself dropped the news, saying “if you’re wondering who’s going to play Chucky in the new Child’s Play, you’re looking at him”. He later shared the video on his social media accounts, but sadly, didn’t give a hint of what Chucky will sound like.
Aside from Star Wars, Hamill is known for his voice work, most notably The Joker in Batman: The Animated Series. He has been a big part of the childhood of many, myself included, so why not taking a step into the horror genre and taking part of another childhood memory? Legends only, that’s for sure.

The first Child’s Play trailer divided even more an already divided fan base. Some complained about the tone of the footage, others because there wasn’t enough Chucky, and others are simply not sold on the idea. Hopefully, Hamill’s involvement will spark the curiosity of some and will prompt others to give this movie a chance.
After all, we all know that Hamill has a wide range when it comes to voicing characters, especially those leaning on the evil/villainous side. This movie has definitely gotten more interesting, although we probably can’t expect to hear what Chucky will sound like in future teasers or trailers — the more mystery, the better.
Child’s Play, directed by Lars Klevberg and starring Aubrey Plaza, Gabriel Bateman, and Brian Tyree Henry, will be released on June 21.
