Swamp Thing: First official teaser for the DC Universe series has been released
By Mads Lennon
The wait is finally over for James Wan’s take on Swamp Thing. Get your first glimpse of DC Universe’s version with this official teaser trailer!
Alec Holland is Swamp Thing, the human/plant type monstrosity borne from well, you guessed it, a swamp. While a very popular character in the DC comics, we haven’t gotten a modern live-action version of his origin story since the 1980’s, until now.
Next month, on May 31, we will officially be privy to a new live-action Swamp Thing television series. The superhero horror is created by original Swamp Thing creators, writer Len Wein and artist Bernie Wrightson and executive produced by the mastermind behind The Conjuring franchise, James Wan, himself.

Not only is Wan a horror genius but he has proved his worth in the superhero arena as well. Last year his take on Aquaman earned more than $1 billion dollars at the box office. That means he is actually the man behind two billion dollar film franchises with The Conjuring’s entire worldwide earnings equaling more than that.
Needless to say, I’m incredibly excited to see his take on Swamp Thing.
We’ve waited months for news on the show and finally, DC Universe has released the first official teaser trailer for the series and we even get a glimpse of the titular monster!
I have to say, I’m glad they decided to utilize practical elements in this show because even from the small glimpse we get in the teaser below, it looks amazing.
Gary Dauberman, one of the executive producer’s on Swamp Thing, gave an interview with SlashFilm last year where he discussed the creation of the suit and their goals in paying homage to the standard established in the ’80s.
Unfortunately, with the debut of this trailer does come the disheartening news that Warner Bros. has shut down Swamp Thing’s production earlier than planned with a reduction of the first season’s episode count from 13 to 10.
But the good news is, we will, at the very least, be getting a 10 episode season beginning on May 31 and you can watch the first look right here:
The series will star Andy Bean (It: Chapter Two) and Derek Mears (Friday the 13th) as Alec Holland/Swamp Thing, respectively, Crystal Reed (Teen Wolf) as CDC doctor Abby Arcane, Jeryl Prescott (The Walking Dead) as Madame Xanadu, and Virginia Madsen (Candyman) as a grieving mother named Maria Sunderland.
