Ima Killer — Satan, Sex, and No Regrets

This song touches on when love goes wrong. He’s been shunned and a killer, so if he runs into the woman that shunned him, he has decided to kill her. This is one of the songs that people associate most with Harley Poe. The lyrics are super dark but you can’t help but sing along.

Mummified Mom — Have a Great Life

This is another song from the newest album that was just released. As we grow older, we all have to face the fact that our parents won’t be around forever. This guy has a plan, though, that when his mom dies, he will mummify her so she can always hang out.

Fun fact, I have freaked out my own mother by telling her I plan to do the same thing when she passes, and then add some googly eyes for effect so she can be a Halloween decoration. Needless to say, she will be having my brother make the funerary arrangements now.

Transvestites Can Be Cannibals Too — Satan, Sex, and No Regrets

This is one of their most dance-y songs about a man who just wants to live his best life as a transvestite but people just won’t leave him alone and be nice. He just likes his wife’s clothes but people are cruel, so he’s decided to carry his secret “along with a butcher’s knife” because he wants to have people for dinner. Moral of the story, just be nice to each other, guys!

Corrupting My Better Half — The Dead and the Naked

What would you do for love? This romantic and sad song is about a man who couldn’t help but fall head over heels for a woman. After they marry, he confesses that he has murdered 20 people and he is on the run. She loves and accepts him for who is is and goes on the run with him, but she ends up paying for his choices. It’s sad yet so damn catchy!

Everybody Knows My Name — Satan, Sex, and No Regrets

This song by Harley Poe explores the entity that we will all meet one day, Death. Everyone knows his name and this is his song. It is pretty straightforward but it is pretty dark and a great song. Somehow, the band still manages to make this song upbeat. I don’t know how Joseph Whiteford does it.

Evil People — Have a Great Life

I will be honest, I am not entirely sure what this song is about, unless it’s just about evil people and then that title just lays it all out there. The reason I love this song so much is not the lyrics but the music behind them. It’s dark and almost haunting and I just can’t get enough of it.

It’s Only the End of the World — Wretched. Filthy. Ugly.

More from Lists

And last but certainly not least, this is the very first song I ever heard by Harley Poe. Many, many, MANY years ago, Rue Morgue magazine had a yearly segment called Hymns from the House of Horror. Every month they would release a new song you could download for free and then by the end of the year, you would have a whole album of spooky, scary music to listen to. This song was on the first of those albums and it got me hooked to Harley Poe and I never looked back. This song is lovingly about the zombie apocalypse.

That is my list of some of the best that Harley Poe has to offer but it is by no means all of the amazing songs this band has. I recommend checking them out and they randomly tour, so if you can see them live, I highly recommend it. If you like this song list, check out my list for the best Ghost songs for noobs!
