Is The CW’s new horror anthology Two Sentence Horror Stories worth watching?
By Mads Lennon
The CW has unveiled its new summer anthology series, Two Sentence Horror Stories. Should you plan on watching it yourself?
The CW aims to get involved in the horror game this summer with the introduction of a new series titled Two Sentence Horror Stories. As the title suggests, each episode will be a mini-horror movie based on brining a two-sentence horror story to life.
At the moment, it looks like the plan is to unveil two new episodes as a week, as each episode only has a run-time of twenty to thirty minutes. In its premiere hour, we saw the debut of “Gentleman” and “Squirm.”

Based on the first two episodes of the show, I wouldn’t label Two Sentence Horror Stories a “must-see.” If you’re truly in the mood for a new horror show to tide you over until fall TV season kicks off, this series should fill that void nicely.
The second episode of the two is much better than the initial episode. “Squirm” is a condensed creature feature with an unpredictable storyline and some genuinely stomach-turning body horror.
Don’t watch this series anticipating American Horror Story or Black Mirror effects. It’s evident from the get-go this is a low-budget show. However, it is an anthology. What I love about episodic anthologies is they provide the added benefit of offering up something different in each episode.
You may hate one episode and love the next, as was the case for me with “Gentleman” versus “Squirm.”
The concept of “Gentleman” is one we’ve seen hundreds of times before. A serial killer stalks young mothers. There is a twist, but any genre-savvy fan will see it coming from a mile away. Whereas “Squirm” offers better performances, better scares, and a more exciting storyline.
I plan to keep watching the show. It didn’t blow me away, but it could be a fun new summer staple for The CW if it gets renewed. It also appears to have a diverse cast along with several female writers and directors, which is always something I look for, particularly in the horror genre.
