Ash Williams, everyone’s favorite chainsaw handed hero and slayer of the Evil Dead isn’t one of the Mortal Kombat 11 Kombat Pack additions. However, an in-game reference to the Bruce Campbell character has been found. Where do we go from here?

Ash Williams, the perennial horror hero was looking like he might be included in Mortal Kombat 11’s Kombat Pack additions. At first, Bruce Campbell issued a tweet negating the idea because at the time, he told us:

"“Look, I put that rumor to bed when I did that little graphic, I tweeted and that was truth at the time! The truth is a moving object in our world of entertainment. It was true there were absolutely no plans because I hadn’t heard s*** from anybody.”"

Afterwards, when he received a phone call informing him that certain parties were talking about Ash appearing in the game, on June 1 he tweeted the following to his fans:

"“Boy, looks like a swell game – I’ll have to check it out!”"

So, this has been the saga of will he or won’t he appear in the game. Well, much to everyone’s dismay, when the DLC characters were announced on Aug. 21, Ash was not among the choices. In his place was The Joker.

Of course, fans of the Raimi horror franchise are annoyed, to say the least. Seasoned Gaming speculated that it was probably a licensing issue and that The Joker happened to be a more accessible “get” for NetherRealm.

However, someone over at Test Your Might found  the “smoking gun,” so to speak. Ash’s name appears in the Kombat Pack reveal! So, if that is the case and as of yet, there have been no reports of it being deleted, what happened?

Was it a licensing issue or something else? The thought process for the gaming community from what we have read seems to be that NetherRealm chose to use the Joker instead to satisfy marketing strategy.

The Joker movie is due to be released Oct. 4. He is a more recognizable character and appeals to a wider fan base than Ash. That being said, the other rumor that is making the rounds is that KP1 is a test. If gamers support it and if it makes money than Evil Dead fans can expect to see Ash in KP2 which is due to be released sometime in 2020.

Another MK11 fan felt that somewhere there is a “scrapped” version of Ash Williams. Which could be the case. While we can’t confirm anything, we will just go back in the queue for the waiting game. Here’s to 2020!

What are your thoughts on the Joker replacing Ash? Do you think he will make it into the 2020 Kombat Pack? Let us know in the comments.
