Halloween Kills: Tommy Doyle returns as Anthony Michael Hall
Anthony Michael Hall is set to take over the role of Tommy Doyle in the upcoming sequel, Halloween Kills. What will he bring to the part?
Anthony Michael Hall, everyone’s favorite geek boy from the 1980’s has been added to the cast of Halloween Kills according to Variety. The actor will be joining Jamie Lee Curtis and Nick Castle. Yes, the part of Tommy Doyle that Paul Rudd originated in the 1995 film, Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers will be played by the veteran.
As fans of the franchise recall, Laurie Strode was babysitting Tommy when all hell broke loose on that fateful holiday night in 1978. Segue to 1989 and Doyle is still struggling with the events of that long ago Halloween.
Basically, he has dedicated his life to trying to understand the killer’s motives. In part 6, he teams up with Dr. Loomis to try and end Michael’s reign of terror once and for all. Of course, Myers’ demise is questionable because that is just what happens in a Halloween film.
Apparently, Paul Rudd was approached to reprise his role in Halloween Kills but due to scheduling constraints since he is appearing in Ghostbusters 2020, he couldn’t do it. Thus, leaving the door open for another actor.
While some fans may be disappointed that Rudd isn’t returning, Hall should make an excellent addition to the cast. Why do I think this? Well, let’s take a look at his body of work.

For those of you that love 80’s movies, you know Anthony was part of the classic John Hughes film, The Breakfast Club. He played Brian Johnson, the lovable nerd who just wanted to fit in. He also portrayed a similar character in another Hughes venture, Sixteen Candles.
Hall was also the lead in the very popular TV adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dead Zone. In the series, he portrayed Johnny Smith, the psychic school teacher. Christopher Walken originated the character in the David Cronenberg film.
What can Hall bring to the table with his version of Tommy Doyle? A certain pathos. Based on his past performances, he excels at characters that have internal struggles whether it is wanting to be accepted by peers or learning how to cope with a paranormal ability.
Doyle will definitely be conflicted because he has lived with the trauma of Michael Myers since 1978. It has certainly colored his life. Expect the actor to bring depth to Tommy. We have no idea of the plot as of yet but those details might come later.
Halloween Kills will start shooting in Sept. and will be released on Oct. 16, 2020.
