We know that City of Angels will be set in 1930s Los Angeles with a focus on Mexican-American folklore. It will heavily feature the deity Santa Muerte. Some of the central conflicts in the series will center around the division between those that worship Santa Muerte and those that worship the Devil.
The series will explore the occult and the creation of myths during the period in addition to featuring supernatural creatures mixed in with the hardened detectives trying to keep the city from falling into chaos.
The official Showtime Twitter account posted a photo of Nathan Lane and Daniel Zovatto looking sharp in their detective get-up to announce the start of production:
This tweet also clarifies that the exact year the show will take place is 1938, not accounting for potential flashbacks and time jumps, of course. With production beginning, we can begin to anticipate more plot details and hopefully, photos, being shared with us soon!
In addition to Lane, Dormer, and Perabo, other familiar faces joining the cast include Dominic Sherwood, Kerry Bishé, Brent Spiner, Lin Shaye, Ethan Peck, and many more.
