Bruce Campbell is one of the impressive ensemble of characters on the upcoming Netflix animated series, The Last Kids on Earth. Time to meet Shep!

For Bruce Campbell, Sept. 17 is going to be a busy day. Not only does his Requiem for Ash paperback version of Hail to the Chin 2 hit the market but his latest series, The Last Kids on Earth premieres on Netflix.

Ever since his participation was announced way back in March, fans were eager to know more about his character. We talked to Campbell recently in an exclusive interview and even he didn’t have too much information.

"“I can’t tell you a lot of detail about it because these things are so secretive and they only have your name on it and you only see the scenes that you’re in.”"

What we did manage to find out from creator Max Brallier in Paste Magazine is that Bruce’s character was not in the original series of children’s books. They invented a role exclusively for him.

Now, in a chat with Collider, Brallier and executive producer, Scott Peterson reveal the name of Campbell’s onscreen alter ego for the show and it sounds very similar to a certain member of The Three Stooges. The actor will be portraying…Shep!

That moniker is pretty apropos so kudos to Max and Scott on that one. Apparently, everyone on The Last Kids on Earth is a huge Evil Dead fan and crafting a role from scratch was their way of wanting to involve Campbell in the production. All of this makes sense because if you think about it, the series is a lighter version of the classic horror film.

You have Jack Sullivan (voiced by the talented Nick Wolfhard), a hero that isn’t ready to assume the heavy responsibility of fighting zombies and monsters and his rag tag group of friends, Dirk (Charles Demers), Quint (Garland Whitt) and June (Montse Hernandez). Sounds an awful lot like Ash Williams and the Ghostbeaters from Ash vs Evil Dead, don’t you think?

The Last Kids on Earth is bound to be a success and is chock full of talent. Mark Hamill will be voicing Bartle, who is one of the many monsters in the series. As for veteran comedienne Catherine O’Hara, she will be portraying Skelka who was in the original books but just as a minor character. In Netflix’s adaptation however, since Brallier and Peterson fell in love with her, everyone will be seeing more of Skelka in upcoming episodes.

It looks like Keith David has a pivotal role as Thrull. So, stay tuned because it will be exciting since neither creator wants to reveal too much about his participation!
