An evil ringmaster terrorizes the kids of Are You Afraid of the Dark? in official series trailer

MONTAUK, NY - SEPTEMBER 02: Families enjoy cooking s'mores, a traditional graham cracker treat with melted marshmallows and chocolate, at a beach campfire on September 2, 2010 in Montauk, New York. Much of the East Coast is preparing for Hurricane Earl, a category 2 storm with sustained winds of 115 miles per hour. While current projections are that Earl will continue to weaken as it moves over cooler waters, it still described as a dangerous storm and the largest to make it into the New York City region since Hurricane Bob in 1991. The Carnival of Doom is in town in the first official trailer for Nickelodeon’s upcoming limited revival series, Are you Afraid of the Dark?

Hopefully, you’re not too sick of clowns yet between Pennywise and the Joker. The Midnight Society is returning to Nickelodeon soon, and it looks like the new limited series is going to have a circus theme. The official trailer has been released for Are You Afraid of the Dark?.

For many of us, Are You Afraid of the Dark? was our first exposure to the horror genre. The original series became incredibly popular, and since its cancellation, the show has become something of a cult favorite.

I previously talked about why now was the perfect time for an Are You Afraid of the Dark? revival and I stand by it. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is a direct comparison to the series and did it well in theaters.

More from Horror on TV

If you liked Scary Stories, you’re sure to enjoy Dark, which appears to have a similar format. New characters Gavin, Akiko, Louise, Graham, and Rachel will have to deal with the Carnival of Doom and an evil ringmaster when their campfire ghost tales start to take on a life of their own.

It’s great that horror is becoming more expansive to incorporate kids. I remember reading every R.L. Stine book I could get my hands on in middle school.

Horror isn’t always about the blood and guts; it’s can and should explore the darker themes of life through a unique lens that allows for more experimentation than more conventional genres.

Per the full-length trailer for the rebooted series, it looks like the new talented cast of kids will have to contend with a freaky carnival in town. Most of the talent are newcomers, but you’ll recognize Jeremy Ray Taylor from IT as Graham!

Check out the trailer for yourself and see if it gives you a hearty dose of nostalgia:
