If a phone app could tell you when you’re set to meet your maker with deadly accuracy, would you download it? Watch the official trailer for Countdown!

“Death? There’s an app for that.” That’s the catchy tagline for the upcoming tech-horror film, Countdown. We reported on this film earlier this year when YOU star, Elizabeth Lail, was first announced as joining the cast.

STXFilms wasted no time in getting this movie on the market. It’s already slated for release in time for Halloween! The first official trailer for Countdown is now available online, and it looks like it’s going to be incredibly entertaining.

The idea of a “killer app” sounds like a ridiculous and silly concept. But, done right, this movie could be a witty satire. At worst, it will likely still be a campy good time. The trailer makes it appear more like the latter.

More from Horror Movies

Countdown’s premise is relatively simple. A new app goes viral that supposedly tells you when you’ll die. Some people get told they’ve got 62 years while others, like main character Quinn (Lail), only has two days left on her ticker.

It appears that if you somehow miss your death date, a dark supernatural presence with seriously creepy fingers begins haunting you.

The final scene in the trailer shows Quinn lying in bed with her “boyfriend” only for her REAL boyfriend to walk in the door and wonder who she’s talking to. Cue the arm around her midriff suddenly turning into gargoyle-like creation.

Aside from Lail, the movie also stars other familiar faces like Anne Winters (Grand Hotel), Peter Facinelli (Twilight), Charlie McDermott (The Middle), P.J. Byrne (Big Little Lies), and Jordan Calloway (Black Lightning).

Technological-themed horror is all the rage these days. From Black Mirror to the recent Child’s Play reboot, everyone likes to imagine how the technology we’re so codependent on might one day turn against us and ultimately lead to our demise. Happy thoughts!
