6. Halloween (2018)

  • Directed by: David Gordon Green
  • Starring: Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Will Patton, and Virginia Gardner

The original Halloween movie has stood the test of time to still be considered one of the greatest and most notable slasher films of all time. Since then, the franchise has stumbled heavily into becoming a shell of its former self. Jamie Lee Curtis and John Carpenter departed the series long ago and since then it has limped into theaters with half-baked ideas and increasingly (pointlessly) complicated mythology.

All people wanted was the original formula to return and Halloween (2018) did just that. By hand-waving away years of mediocrity, the Halloween franchise was rejuvenated with a fresh modern take. David Gordon Green and Danny McBride proved an unlikely but somehow perfect duo to tackle the official sequel to the 1978 film.

The return of Jamie Lee Curtis and John Carpenter certainly helped matters. The storyline is simple, Michael Meyers escapes from prison and returns to the Strode residence to finish Laurie once and for all. It is the simplicity and traditional formula that makes this movie work. Well, that and the fact it is anchored by compelling performances.

Halloween (2018) delivered on everything we loved about the original film while introducing some unique new kills to satisfy the diehard horror fans.
