10. Scream 4 (2011)

  • Directed by: Wes Craven
  • Starring: David Arquette, Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Anthony Anderson, Alison Brie, Adam Brody, and Rory Culkin

Scream is a classic franchise created by horror master, Wes Craven. He and Kevin Williamson worked together on crafting the fourth entry into the series. After a long gap after Scream 3, Scream 4 came about perfect for the next generation fo fans back in 2011.

Many were surprised at just how good Scream 4 wound up being, but it helped that basically everyone from the original movies returned in addition to some inspired casting choices like Emma Roberts and Hayden Panettiere. This movie marked the beginning of Robert’s ascent to becoming a scream queen.

The film takes place on the 15th anniversary of the original murders. Sidney Prescott, one of the best scream queens of our time, returns to her old home of Woodsboro as part of her book tour. But once again, Ghostface strikes and starts to kill people.

Like the other movies in the franchise, Scream pokes fun at itself and the slasher genre at large. It’s both a dark comedy and a traditional slasher film, released at a time when slashers were hard to find. Plus, many agree that Scream 4 was a big step up from Scream 2 and 3, more on par with the ingenuity of the first film.
