You’re Not a Monster is an animated series from Frasier’s Kelsey Grammer and The Colbert Report’s Frank Lesser. IMDb TV is streaming your new favorite show just in time for Halloween.

You’re Not a Monster is ten episodes of fun now streaming on IMDb TV. This brand-new animated series is the brainchild of writer/director Frank Lesser in collaboration with veteran comedian, Kelsey Grammer of Frasier fame.

What happens when a therapist who is a mortal inherits his practice from his ancestor who happens to be a vampire? Tons of wacky situations involving monsters and demons as patients. Believe it or not, the undead have problems just like the living.

Max Seward (Eric Stonestreet of Modern Family) has his own issues. He is still hung up on his ex, Elsa who is also a fellow therapist. His unresolved feelings for her makes it a challenge for him to impart advice to those particular lovelorn entities seeking solace.

Of course, it doesn’t help that John (Kelsey Grammer), his great-grandfather drops in at inopportune times to assist him. This usually involves some double entendres and embarrassing humorous situations.

We had the chance to binge the series. It is thoroughly enjoyable and each episode clocks in at 4 to 5 minutes so Season 1 can easily be watched within an hour. If you are looking for an alternative to the usual slice ‘em and dice ‘em Halloween movie marathons, give this show a try.

Still not convinced? Here are 3 reasons why You’re Not a Monster is must-see TV!

3. Creator Frank Lesser used to work for Stephen Colbert

Frank Lesser was part of the writing staff of the fabulous The Colbert Report which ran on Comedy Central from 2005 until 2015. Prior to joining Stephen’s team, he wrote for The Daily Show when Jon Stewart was the host.

Obviously, Lesser worked with the best in the business so he knows what’s funny and he understands how to run a series. You’re Not a Monster ties in quite a few pop culture references which is definitely something in his wheelhouse from his past.

Colbert and Stewart were known for shining the spotlight on relevant topics of the day from the worlds of politics and show business. Frank Lesser’s latest effort does the same thing.

2. The Talent

Kelsey Grammer is a veteran character actor who starred in one of the highest rated series in television history, Cheers as Dr. Frasier Crane. Then in the 90’s he reprised his role on the extremely successful spin-off, Frasier for NBC.

He clearly relishes his role in You’re Not a Monster as Max’s great-grandfather, John who is a vampire and the best friend of Dracula. With his theatrical delivery and polished comedic timing, he is the perfect foil for his grandson.

Eric Stonestreet has been on Modern Family for 11 seasons and is another highly skilled thespian. What makes his role of Max Seward interesting is that he is low-key and unassuming which is the polar opposite of the more flamboyant and vocal Cam Tucker from his hit ABC series.

The actor is incredibly convincing as a therapist who may be a little out of his comfort zone handling the insecurities of monsters and demons. You know Max means well but sometimes he has a hard time conveying his intentions but he does try to do his best for his patients.

There are some incredible guest stars that are just delightful. Patton Oswalt plays the Invisible Man and Ellie Kemper from The Office and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is Max’s ex, Elsa. Amy Sedaris who happens to be a friend and former colleague of Stephen Colbert and the star of the hilarious Strangers with Candy portrays the legendary Medusa.

The casting department has done a commendable job assembling all of this incredible talent.

1. Homage to Classic Horror Icons

The best part of this animated series is you never know what horror icon will make an appearance. Freddy Krueger shows up on Max’s couch, so does Jason Voorhees. Michael Myers is silent but present as well. Even Hannibal Lecter joins in the fun!

Samara from The Ring has her issues looking for love and Pazuzu from The Exorcist haunts Max because he is trying to get more therapy time without having to pay for it.

Not only do the classic characters show up but George Romero is referenced and so is George Lucas. We can’t forget there is a lovelorn zombie, the Phantom of the Opera, a sex demon and a mermaid too!

Its pretty amusing to hear what all of these monsters’ issues are and how they aren’t handling them. Check out the following clip from the series.
