AHS 1984 Season 9 Episode 7: The Lady In White recap
By Billy Cripps
We have arrived at the traditional Halloween episode for American Horror Story. Sadly for AHS 1984, it’s one of the worst .
The annual AHS Halloween episode for 1984 is probably one of the worst in the overall series. Though it is still an enjoyable one, it’s difficult to discern if the references are meant to be parody or homage.
We travel back in time to 1948 at Camp Redwood. At the time, it had a different name. Ben a.k.a. the future Mr. Jingles goes to the camp with his little brother Bobby, and their mother is the cook. Does that sound familiar to any of you residents of Elm Street?
Wait, there’s more. When Ben is supposed to be taking Bobby swimming, he leaves him at the dock. Instead, he spies on the camp lifeguard and a counselor having sex in the woods. Meanwhile, Bobby jumps into the lake and as it turns out, he’s not a very strong swimmer.
However he doesn’t drown, he gets caught by a boat motor. A couple of years later, there is a massacre at the camp. So, within the first few minutes of the episode, we’ve seen a combination of plot points from Friday The 13th, Sleepaway Camp and a lovemaking scene from Friday the 13th Part 5. That’s just the beginning. Thankfully things get a bit more original.

As the big musical festival at Camp Redwood is about to begin, Mr. Jingles arrives to put an end to Richard Ramirez and protect his son. While there he discovers from the souls trapped at camp there’s another spirit, the spirit of his mother. She convinces him to kill himself so his spirit can stay at the camp. This way if Ramirez kills him, then he won’t go to hell. Speaking of Ramirez one of the darkest and funniest moments of the series comes when he kills the new wave band, Kajagoogoo of “Too Shy” fame.
Brooke wants to go to the music festival so she can kill Margaret. Donna/Nurse Rita tries to help her unwind a little bit so she takes her to a roller rink where they pick up a hitchhiker. The hitchhiker (played by Dylan McDermott from AHS: Murder House) happens to be a serial killer. They outsmart him and head to Camp Redwood as the episode ends.
Will things explode in the next two episodes of AHS 1984? Stay tuned…
