Is The Simpsons going to air a scary Thanksgiving episode this year?

New episode synopsis for the upcoming November 24 episode of the long-running animated hint, The Simpsons, hints at something spooky to come.

Not only has The Simpsons managed to stay on the air for decades, but the series is constantly introducing new parodies, concepts, and experimental jokes into its massive catalog of episodes. The series is currently airing Season 31!

It was incredibly fitting that the Halloween episode this season happened to coincide with the show’s 666 episode. The episode, “Treehouse of Horror XXX” parodied everything from Stranger Things to The Shape of Water.

But alas, Halloween has come to a close and the Christmas decorations are already flying off the shelves. It would appear The Simpsons is done with horror for the year or is it?

More from Horror on TV

Jenna Anderson, writer for Comic Book, doesn’t believe so. She penned an interesting piece about a recent episode synopsis suggesting that the mega-hit animated series might be dabbling in horror for Thanksgiving this year.

Indeed, the November 24 episode is appropriately titled “Thanksgiving of Horror.” Its episode synopsis, which was just released, supports Anderson’s theory.

"“The Simpsons are forced to face various Thanksgiving nightmares, including the first Thanksgiving, an artificial intelligence mishap and a dangerous space mission complicated by a sentient cranberry sauce.”"

Nightmares, sentient cranberry sauce, artificial intelligence mishap, dangerous space mission, those all sound like excellent ingredients for a compelling scary half-hour.

It’s always fun to see television shows and films experiment with the idea of haunted horror. It’s fitting for this season in particular since Blumhouse is also going to bring the blood with the festive cheer in the shape of its upcoming Black Christmas reboot.

After airing for 31 seasons, The Simpsons has earned its right to try new things. I, for one, look forward to seeing how “Thanksgiving of Horror” plays out.
