Scream 5 is officially in the works and here are 4 things we want to see
By Mads Lennon
After a lot of rumors and speculation, it has finally been confirmed that Scream 5 is in early development at Spyglass Media. Here are a few things we want to see in the movie.
According to Deadline, Scream 5 is officially in early development at Spyglass Media. Earlier this year, Spyglass Media purchased the entire library of Dimension films after they joined with Lantern Entertainment. This means that Spyglass now owns the rights to the iconic self-referential slasher franchise.
For a while, it was rumored that Blumhouse was going to take the reigns on Scream‘s future. Now it appears that is no longer the case.
Beyond knowing that Scream 5 is on the table and could potentially come to fruition in the near future, we have no idea what else the saga continuation will contain. Will old cast members return? Who will direct? Who will write the screenplay? Will Scream 5 be a reboot or a sequel?

We’ve got a few ideas of things we would like to see in the movie.
4. The original cast.
If Scream 5 is going to work it needs to include the original cast. Many fans have already claimed they’ll ignore the existence of the film if Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, and David Arquette don’t return in the roles they originated as Sidney Prescott, Gale Weathers, and Dewey Riley.
One Twitter user stated what we all feel, “if Gale, Dewey and Sidney aren’t in it, it’s not a Scream movie.”
Hopefully, this won’t be a problem as all three stars did return for Scream 4, which was filmed many years after the third movie.
Last month, Courtney Cox shared a hilarious Halloween post on Instagram. In it, she pokes fun at her infamous bangs from Scream 3. Should she bring them back?

Jaime Kennedy, who played Randy in the original movie, also signed off an interesting fan theory presenting the idea of his character having “faked his own death.”
3. Kevin Williamson as a writer.
Tragically, horror master Wes Craven is no longer with us. There are many fans who believe Scream should not continue without him. But as this is Hollywood, that is simply not realistic. However, Kevin Williamson has worked alongside Craven for years.
He also worked as a writer and/or producer on all four Scream films. It would be great if he would return as a writer, or at least an executive producer, for the fifth movie to ensure it maintains the spirit of the original movies.
Unfortunately, Williamson is supposedly disinterested in returning to the franchise, especially without Craven. But stranger things have happened. Perhaps if the original cast agrees to come back, Williamson will be more likely say yes.
2. A female director.
Craven directed all four films currently in existence. Who could possibly take over his monumental legacy for the new movie? I think the franchise should move in a different direction instead of trying to replicate his ingenuity.
It would be great to see a woman director behind the lens. I vote for Karyn Kusama, whose craft is undeniably gifted and whose distinctive style, such as that we saw in the criminally underrated Jennifer’s Body, would gel well this film series.
1. A tie-in to the Scream television series.
Many fans are conflicted about their feelings on the MTV television series. Although it is typically agreed that the first generation of teenagers is preferable to the lousy third season.
That said, it would be kind of cool to see a cameo appearance from some of the MTV actors in the movie. Scream is known for packing in a lot of fun celebrity appearances. Just watch the elaborate opening to Scream 4 again if you don’t believe us.
What better way to let fans see Carlson Young, Bex Taylor-Klaus, and Willa Fitzgerald reprise their roles than by making them early Ghostface victims? Or even let them show up in the background. It would be a fun way to link the two universes without going into too much detail and still keeping them relatively separate.
