Bruce Campbell could almost overtake Kevin Bacon in the six degrees of separation department. This week we take a look at how another popular franchise is connected to Army of Darkness.

When Bruce Campbell made Army of Darkness over 26 years ago, he probably had no idea about the impact this Sam Raimi movie would have on popular culture. Next to “Groovy,” (Ash Williams’ signature catch phrase), “Give me some sugar, baby!” also gets quoted constantly by fans of the Evil Dead trilogy the world over.

Conversely, this particular film has ties to other famous franchises as we have pointed out. Both Batman and Star Trek iconic locations are utilized in Campbell’s medieval epic. Now, there is another iconic flick which shares a connection to Army of Darkness.

According to Mental Floss, the Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis beloved paranormal comedy, Ghostbusters is also represented in Raimi’s opus. As a matter of fact, Bruce Campbell shares some screen time with one of the characters from that film.

It is also interesting to see how interconnected Hollywood is. Here is where the two films come together. When Bruce is in the pit fighting the witch, after he dispenses her, a monster suddenly enters the picture to fight him. The actor obscured by all that makeup is Billy Bryan.

He happens to be a special FX artist by trade who appeared in Ghostbusters as Ray Stantz’s favorite childhood memory, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man! Bryan was also a foam fabricator on Army of Darkness for the KNB EFX Group.
