Ghostbusters: Afterlife poster reveal, plot hints and set photos!
Ghostbusters: Afterlife director Jason Reitman dropped some hints about the plot of his latest venture and how everything is connected to the original film.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife news is heating up the internet. This past week, we reported that the film would have a trailer soon and Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that it will drop on Monday, Dec. 9. Director Jason Reitman spoke with Vanity Fair recently and hinted at some major plot points.
Here is what we know so far. Afterlife starts when Callie (Carrie Coon) and her two children, Phoebe and Trevor move to a rural burg in Oklahoma when she inherits property from her estranged father.
Phoebe and Trevor decide to explore their new surroundings. One day, Trevor stumbles upon a tarp with a vehicle underneath it in their ramshackle barn. When the auto is revealed, he is clearly surprised.
Why? Well, it turns out to be the Ecto-1. Excited at the prospect of inheriting a set of wheels, Trevor who happens to be a “gearhead” of sorts, starts tinkering with the ghost mobile to get her in working order again.
Meanwhile, Phoebe wanders around the farmhouse where she is now residing. What she finds appeals to her science minded brain. There are tons of books for her to delve into and some peculiar items that fans will recognize as ghostbusting equipment.

One of these tools turns out to be the ghost trap. Of course, she wants to know more about the device so she enlists her summer school teacher, Mr. Grooberson (Paul Rudd) to decipher what it is.
He can’t believe what she has found. That is when we take a trip back in time to the “Manhattan Crossrip of 1984.” Grooberson explains to Phoebe all about that apocalyptic summer and how four guys known as the Ghostbusters fought back against evil demons, a Sumerian god and a possessed Stay-Puft Marshmallow man.
All of this knowledge comes into play when Phoebe and her friend (Logan Kim) decide to investigate a nearby abandoned mine which appears to be generating seismic activity. Uh-oh. Could another rift be coming?
If so, who will Callie and her family call? We have a hunch. Here is what Jason Reitman has to say:
"“Trevor and Phoebe are about to find out who their grandfather was and whether they’re ready to pick up the proton pack themselves.”"
Now, the director didn’t reveal his identity but we have a strong suspicion that their grandfather will be Egon (Harold Ramis). Hence the idea that everything in this film is interconnected to his father, Ivan’s original production.
With all of the strong callbacks headed our way, we can’t help but feel nostalgic and hopeful about Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Check out the official poster!
