The X-Men film The New Mutants to retain its horror roots after all
By Mads Lennon
We’ve been hearing rumors about The New Mutants for years now, and it finally looks like the movie will hit theaters in 2020, as a horror film!
Can you believe that the first trailer for the 20th Century FOX film The New Mutants was first released three years ago? Since then, the release date for the X-Men movie has changed countless times until it seemed like the studio had shelved the film for good.
Now it looks like it will finally arrive in theaters later this year. It will premiere theatrically on April 3, 2020. Hopefully, that date doesn’t get changed once again. However, after extensive reshoots, what will the film look like? Fans have worried that the movie would morph into a traditional superhero movie and loose its unique horror flair.
However, thanks to a Twitter exchange reported by Comic Book Resources, it looks like The New Mutants will adhere to the original vision created by director Josh Boone.
The tweet in question was posted by a fan who screenshotted an Instagram conversation in which director Josh Boone confirmed the version of The New Mutants to be released would be his original vision.
Boone stated he “wouldn’t be promoting it here [on Instagram] if it wasn’t.”
This is good news for X-Men fans as many have been anticipating The New Mutants for some
time thanks to the psychological thriller vibes they got from the first trailer.
The movie will follow five mutants who are being held against their will in a secret facility. It stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga, Blu Hunt, and Alice Braga.
