Showtime releases a new trailer for Penny Dreadful: City of Angels

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels is finally inching closer to its premiere date and to prepare, Showtime released a new full-length trailer.
We’re only weeks away from the premiere of Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. Fans of the original series have been eagerly anticipating the spin-off for some time now and Showtime has been kind enough to finally give us a full-length trailer. It looks pretty fantastic.
The sequel series will kick-off with a nasty murder in 1928 Los Angeles. If the trailer is any indication, the murder will be directly linked to the Santa Muerte. Detective Tiago Vega (Daniel Zovatto) and his partner Lewis Michener (Nathan Lane) will be launched headfirst into the rich history of the city and a dark and sinister tale at its epicenter.

We also get an interesting introduction to Natalie Dormer’s formidable new character, Magda. Magda is a demon with the ability to shapeshift into anyone she desires. The trailer shows a few different looks, and Dormer’s classic good looks work well for her to shift into both innocent and cunning women.
Magda looks to be an antagonistic presence in the series based on the trailer and information about the show.
However, in the original Penny Dreadful, it was hard to say who was “good” and “evil,” so I’m sure that her character will be much more complex.
It’s possible that she may be the show’s version of the Devil, based on an article by Collider. We also got a peek at Kerry Bishé, who plays a rather intense-looking radio evangelist. The series is definitely going to have strong religious overtones and elements.
The trailer also makes it seem like Tiago Vega is going to be a central character, and that his past experiences may tie-in directly to the main story, and maybe even the murder.
