Scream 5 rages on as Variety reports that Ready or Not directors are on board. Could Samara Weaving join the franchise?

Scream 5 rumors were all over the place toward the end of 2019. In an exclusive with Movie Web, David Arquette stated that he had some ideas on how his character of Dewey could return to the fold.

While we can’t understand why we even need to revisit this franchise again (considering Scream 4 didn’t exactly tear up the box office), Spyglass Media is bound and determined to bring us all back to Woodsboro. Variety reported yesterday that the production has signed the directors of Ready or Not, Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett to the project.

Good thing to know is that Olpin and Gillett understand the subtle nuances of horror comedy. So, this reboot is in capable hands.

That being said, could they entice Samara Weaving to join the production? She definitely has the pedigree for horror, after all she starred in Ash vs Evil Dead, Mayhem and The Babysitter before being cast as Grace Le Domas.

More from Wes Craven

What is interesting is the fact that there is no word on a script in development or even if any stars from the Wes Craven years will be attached. Usually, that type of news is all over the trades when a film is in the midst of pre-production.

However, when you check IMDb for info, it gets interesting. There is a synopsis along with the rumor that Neve Campbell is reprising her role. Scream 5 is supposedly going to be ready for theaters by 2021.

Apparently, the plot involves a woman returning to her hometown to investigate a series of horrendous crimes. Why does that description sound like the plot of Scream 4?

If Sidney returns, is she the one that will be looking into the murders or will she be a “mentor” of sorts for a new character? At this point, it is anyone’s guess as to what could potentially occur.

Most fans want to see the gang back together again rather than introduce new actors into the mix. Knowing that they have targeted 2021 for theatrical release, will they try to go head to head with Halloween Ends?

In any case, stay tuned because this saga is probably far from over.
