Mad Max or Max Rockatansky is definitely someone that we would want on our apocalypse squad. After all, he has proven that he has superior survival skills. What other horror/sci-fi characters made our cut?

Mad Max is just the type of warrior we would want in the aftermath of an apocalypse. After all, he was still alive and standing after dealing with Fury Road and all the frenzied craziness of the people in that torturous landscape.

In the midst of trying times in the real world where self-isolation has become an edict and social distance is a new buzz term, we decided to compile a list of some of our favorite horror/sci-fi characters that we would definitely want on our end of the world survival squad.

Max “Mad Max” Rockatansky

In 1979, George Miller introduced us to an iconic character who would be forever referenced along with the term “end of days.” He also made a star out of a relatively unknown Australian actor named Mel Gibson.

Mad Max was a vengeful cop who was hell bent on stopping a crazy motorcycle gang in the original picture. In the sequel, Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, Rockatansky saves a small community that is rich in gasoline (which is a hard commodity to come by in Miller’s dystopian world) from malevolent thieves.

Beyond the Thunderdome had the drifter pitted in a bloody death match against the powerful Master/Blaster. Which coincidentally was Gibson’s last appearance as the gritty hero.

Tom Hardy became the new version of Mad Max in Fury Road. Once again, he is the savior who kills the tyrannical Immortan Joe, gives the people control of the water supply and instills Furiosa as the new leader. If ever we have to fight murderous hordes of mutants in a desolate location with limited resources, Mad Max is our go-to guy.

Negan

Say what you will about Negan, he is definitely a force to be reckoned with. Played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan since 2016 on The Walking Dead, this bad a** character along with his trusty barbed wire bat, “Lucille,” ruled the roost for a while with his group, “The Saviors.”

Basically, like a Mafia Don, Negan and his thugs would come in, overtake other communities and have them pay tribute so that he could protect them from the undead. Quite a bit has happened since those days when he was in charge.

He was imprisoned, faced a death sentence and then was freed to kill the Whisperers leader, Alpha. One could almost say he is on the path to being an anti-hero. While he was definitely violent and harsh with his methods, he did kill Abraham Ford as retribution for Rick’s group annihilating his soldiers.

When survival is on the line, he makes the hard choices, owns them and is willing to do whatever it takes to stay alive.

Ash Williams

What can we say about the ultimate Deadite Slayer? Look, this guy is so tough, he took a chainsaw and cut off his own hand. Then he attached the same chainsaw to his stub.

He can also wield a mean boomstick when he has to and is an accurate shot to boot. Yes, he is a braggart and a bit full of himself but he proved that he can be a protector in Ash vs Evil Dead looking after the Ghostbeaters and his daughter, Brandy.

If anyone understands the concepts of self-isolation and social distancing, it’s Ash Williams. You better believe we would ride around in the Classic until the end of time with this one.

Hannibal Lecter

Hannibal might seem like an odd choice considering he does have a rather exotic palate. However, he doesn’t eat those that he respects. After all, he did let Clarice live because the world was a better place with her in it.

Remember what he did to Multiple Miggs on Starling’s behalf after his fellow inmate did something unspeakable to her? He talked Miggs into swallowing his own tongue. Now, that is an indispensable skill to have when you are fighting off crazed zombies.

We would definitely feel that he could protect us in a dire situation. Plus, he sure knows how to handle a knife. Just ask Will Graham.

Ginny

Ginny from Friday the 13th Part 2 is one of the best final girls ever, in our humble opinion. Why do we think that? Yes, she survived Jason but she also was able to use her psychology training to get the best of him by pretending to be his mother.

She was scared out of her mind but she was brave and still fighting even with that horrible gash in her leg. In a slow-motion move, she manages to bury a machete in Jason’s neck. We like the fact that she was able to keep her wits about her under pressure.
