Netflix has released the premier date, teaser trailer and description for The Haunting of Bly Manor, the streaming platform’s follow up season to 2018’s The Haunting of Hill House.

The Haunting of Bly Manor is not a continuation of Hill House. It will be a different story featuring new characters. Similar to American Horror Story, this “second season” will include many of the same actors.

Fans will be able to view the new Netflix series on Friday, October 9. The teaser (which you can watch at the end of this story) is definitely intriguing. It calls to mind the spooky atmosphere of The Haunting of Hill House, which proved to be a winner for the streaming platform. Both seasons were created and directed by Mike Flanagan, who also wrote Hush and Oculus, and adapted the Stephen King novels Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep.

Loosely based on the written work of Henry James, including The Turn of the Screw and several of his short stories, The Haunting of Bly Manor is set in England in the 1980s. Henry Thomas (who played Hugh Crain in Hill House) portrays Henry Wingrave, the guardian of his orphaned niece and nephew. When the children’s au pair dies, Wingrave hires an American woman named Dani as the children’s new governess.

But, Bly Manor has secrets, as do all haunted houses, and the estate’s chef Owen, housekeeper Mrs. Grose and groundskeeper Jamie may share those secrets with Dani…or she may have to find them out the hard way. Judging by the trailer, which was also just released by Netflix, those secrets have stirred up some ghostly activity in Bly Manor, much as they did in Hill House.

The Haunting of Bly Manor seems to have all of the elements of a good, spooky ghost story: a large, imposing mansion, children, a woman’s body floating in a lake, dark hallways, barely concealed spirits, an eerie basement and dolls. So many creepy dolls!

Hill House actors returning for round two are Victoria Pedretti (adult Nell) Oliver Jackson-Cohen (adult Luke), Kate Siegel (adult Theo) and Katie Parker (Poppy the murderous ghost). While we know that Pedretti is playing Dani, and Jackson-Cohen is playing Peter Quint, Siegel’s role is still a secret for now.

As a huge fan of The Haunting of Hill House, I am definitely looking forward to visiting Bly Manor in October, and Netflix is hoping other horror series lovers will be stopping by as well.
