How will Scream 5 fit into the franchise? Jenna Ortega spills the beans on what we can expect from the latest installment.

Our last trip to the slashing world of Scream was part 4. That film played with the tropes of remakes and reboots.

With Scream 5, many fans (including us) are wondering just how will the current effort fit into the adventures of everyone’s favorite slasher, Ghost Face? Part 4 seemed to wrap the story up nicely, so what is left to explore? According to CinemaBlend and star of Scream 5, Jenna Ortega, we can expect some deep surprises.

Since the main cast is returning, Ortega said fans should be ready for “callbacks” to other installments in the franchise. Scream 5, of course, marks the first time a Scream film hasn’t been helmed by the late, great Wes Craven.

The fact that the creator of one of the best franchises in filmdom is not behind the camera is a cause for concern among followers of the series. However, this current incarnation is in capable hands. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the team behind the wonderful horror-comedy, Ready or Not is at the helm for Scream 5.

But the question remains, can they nail down the formula that Wes Craven created? The pressure is indeed on and as we’ve seen with films like this that incorporate entirely new minds and crews into the mix, this could sink the Scream films.

We are very optimistic. After all, David Arquette, Courteney Cox and Neve Campbell are reprising the roles they made famous.

With these Scream veterans secured, maybe Woodsboro will rise again for a sixth or perhaps seventh installment. Scream 5 will be released on Jan.14, 2022.
