Vince Vaughn divulged his favorite horror film yesterday during the New York Comic Con 2020 Freaky panel and oddly enough, it makes sense.

Vince Vaughn garnered national attention with his breakout performance in Jon Favreau’s brilliant indie, Swingers. With his stylish pompadour and his hip Daddy-O threads, he won the audiences’ hearts.

From there, he ventured into blockbuster territory when he starred in The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Not one to be pigeonholed, he dabbled in different genres including horror.

In 1998, Gus Van Sant cast him as Norman Bates (the role that Anthony Perkins made famous) in his shot-by-shot remake of the Hitchcock masterpiece, Psycho. While it was an ambitious effort, it didn’t quite hit the mark.

However, that didn’t deter Vaughn from trying his hand at horror again. Tarsem Singh’s incredibly lush psychological terror fest, The Cell beckoned to the actor. He starred as FBI agent, Peter Novak, the obsessed profiler who is doggedly pursuing Vincent D’Onofrio’s serial killer, Carl Stargher.

Shortly thereafter, his career trajectory took an interesting turn when he starred in the hit comedy, Old School with Will Ferrell. From that moment on, he became known as a predominantly comedic actor.

Even in his latest effort with Blumhouse (the Christopher Landon directed Freaky), Vince Vaughn is sticking close to his comedy roots. However, he is portraying a serial killer, who swaps bodies with a teenage girl. Admittedly, the film is incredibly humorous, albeit dark.

While promoting his effort at NYCC’s Virtual Metaverse yesterday, the thespian was asked about his favorite horror film. His answer made total sense.

He enjoys Evil Dead. His choice isn’t really surprising. Sam Raimi’s “splatstick” cult classic is in line with his sensibilities as an actor.

While the subject matter may be grim, the opportunities for humor in Raimi’s production were vast. Although Vaughn candidly admitted that Evil Dead scared him to death.

Surprisingly enough, he shares some traits with the star of the horror franchise, Bruce Campbell. The veteran actor is well-known for his razor-sharp wit and snarky delivery of one-liners. Vaughn is also talented with quips.

Both men are gifted physical comedians as well. Just watch Vaughn wrestle with his buddy Jon Favreau in Four Christmases and you’ll see what we mean.

You can catch Vince Vaughn in Freaky when it is released in theaters on Friday, Nov. 13.
