New details about AMC’s The Walking Dead holiday special emerge
By Carla Davis
Two pieces of The Walking Dead holiday special news were released this week, and 1428 Elm has all the gory (and available) details for you.
The Walking Dead is currently in its tenth season, with season 11 slated to be its last. Fans don’t have to be too torn up about that news, though, since we still have Fear the Walking Dead, World Beyond and an upcoming spinoff series featuring Daryl and Carol.
Now comes news that the character of Negan’s wife Lucille will be appearing in at least one of season ten’s six bonus episodes. Not only that, the pivotal role will be played by Hilarie Burton (One Tree Hill, Lethal Weapon).
This is a very interesting development, because it just so happens that Burton is married to Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays Negan. The two even have their own talk show on AMC, Friday Night In With the Morgans.
Super Fans of The Walking Dead know that Lucille was the name Negan gave to his barbed wire-wrapped baseball bat – the same bat that laid waste to our beloved Glen, and Negan also told us that Lucille was his wife’s name. According to his story, his wife (who he had been unfaithful to) died of cancer.
It would be logical to guess that the upcoming episode involving Lucille will be a flash back, which the series has been known to do now and then. In social media posts, Burton stated that it had been very difficult keeping the announcement a secret, but that she was very excited about the role, and about working with the Walking Dead family.
In other TWD news, AMC will be including the series as part of its annual Best Christmas Ever, when they bring us The Walking Dead Holiday Special. This “virtual get-together” will be moderated by Talking Dead’s Chris Hardwick.
The special will include cast members from all three series in TWD universe: The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead and World Beyond, and will only be available on AMC’s premium streaming on demand platform, AMC+. Subscribers can begin viewing the special on Sunday, Dec. 13, one week after World Beyond’s first season finale.
