Joe Bob is back in town for a fourth season on Shudder
By Carla Davis
Hey, everybody, have you heard the news? Joe Bob Briggs is back in town for a fourth season, and will be returning to Shudder for more horror and hilarity.
The Last Drive in with Joe Bob Briggs just ended its very successful third season, and fans were preparing themselves to wait a while for an official announcement. But Shudder stepped up and put us out of our misery very quickly by announcing the renewal today.
Joe Bob, Darcy and the cast and crew of The Last Drive-In first teamed up with Shudder in the summer of 2018 in what was supposed to be the drive-in movie critic’s farewell. But, the 24-hour marathon of films such as Sleepaway Camp, Tourist Trap and Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-A-Rama was so popular that Shudder’s servers were overwhelmed and shut down.
It was a no-brainer to bring the show back as a series, and The Last Drive-In began its run of weekly double features. There were also cleverly titled holiday specials, such as the Thanksgiving Dinners of Death special, along with Joe Bob’s Halloween Hideaway and Red Christmas…well, you get the idea.
Throughout the three seasons of The Last Drive-In, Joe Bob and his cast and crew have brought us crazy films, like Deathgasm, Demon Wind, Hogzilla, and Sledgehammer, along with more well-respected fare like The Changeling, Train to Busan and Audition.
Shudder pronounced the most recent season Joe Bob Briggs’ strongest to date
Thanks to the show trending nationally in the Twitter top ten every Friday night, the latest season was one of the most successful. Joe Bob himself said that he was stoked about doing another season, saying of his “Drive-In Mutant” fan base: “In all my years of writing and performing, I’ve never felt so close to an audience.”
Shudder General Manager Craig Engler said the horror streaming platform is “thrilled to bring The Last Drive-In back for another season and can’t wait to see what movies and guests Joe Bob will come up with next.” We Drive-In Mutants second that declaration, Mr. Engler!
Happy holidays
In a tweet this afternoon, Joe Bob said he and the gang would be returning to “ruin more weekends and holidays”, so it appears the holiday specials will be coming back to Shudder as well. Here’s hoping we will be getting another summer special very soon.
