Is it possible that we could see a new Saw video game in the franchise’s future? While the 2009 game wasn’t well-received, the next one could be great. Earlier today, Bloody Disgusting noted that Mark Burg and Oren Koules, founders of Twisted Pictures and producers of the Saw movies, did a Reddit AMA discussing the potential for a new Saw game.

The game released in 2009, Saw, or Saw: The Video Game, is a third-person survival horror game developed by Zombie Studios and published by Konami. So far, it is the only game in the franchise, and canonically the events of the game are set between the events of Saw and Saw II.

In the game, the Jigsaw Killer places Detective David Tapp in an abandoned asylum. Tapp tries to apprehend Jigsaw by investigating the asylum, searching for clues and finding other people connected to him throughout the facility. Throughout the game, Tapp uncovers Jigsaw’s origins and his motivations. James Wan and Leigh Whannell were part of the development process to create the new trap designs and assist with the storyline.

The Saw video game received mixed reviews overall, with the multiple endings and immersive environment receiving praise while the controls and combat system were panned.

What could we expect from a new Saw video game?

During the Reddit AMA, Burg and Oules were asked if they had any plans to release a new game on next-gen consoles like the Playstation 5 or the Xbox Series X. In response, they said, “100%. Lionsgate has brought us some amazing projects we are exploring now. But it will 100% happen. ”

What else is coming up in the Saw franchise?

Apart from the video games, the Saw franchise is still very much alive and kicking. Earlier this year, we got a new film, Spiral: The Book of Saw, and there are indications that Lionsgate is considering making a Saw television series.
