What happened to the character Hannah McKay played by Yvonne Strahovski in Dexter? Will she return in the Dexter revival, Dexter: New Blood?

SPOILER WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Dexter: New Blood and Hannah McKay’s fate. Do not read if you haven’t watched the newest episode yet.

The last time we saw Hannah McKay, a character from the original Dexter series played by Yvonne Strahovski, escorting a young Harrison Morgan to get ice cream while adjusting to their new home in Argentina. Dexter left his son with Hannah, hoping to give him a chance at a better life by leaving him with her since she has always had a strong connection to him.

Now that Dexter is back in the new Showtime revival series Dexter: New Blood, fans have started to wonder if we’ll see Hannah appear in the new episodes or not. Harrison is all grown up now and tracked Dexter down to Iron Lake, New York. What does that mean for Hannah?

Dexter: New Blood episode 2 actually revealed what happened to Hannah and seems to confirm whether or not she will appear in the revival.

What happened to Hannah McKay?

According to Harrison, Hannah died three years before the revival started. He tells Dexter that Hannah succumbed to pancreatic cancer, leaving him alone. From there, Harrison was sent to live in various foster homes before taking off on his own to find his father.

Is Hannah really dead?

Even though Harrison claims Hannah died, he may be lying for some reason or other. Hannah could still be alive somewhere, although story-wise, it doesn’t make much sense. I think Harrison is telling the truth, and she is dead.

Could Hannah return for Dexter: New Blood?

Assuming Harrison wasn’t lying, it doesn’t seem likely that actress Yvonne Strahovski will return for Dexter: New Blood. For starters, Showtime announced other characters were returning before the show even started. We knew Jennifer Carpenter and John Lithgow would return to reprise their roles as Deb Morgan and Arthur Mitchell despite their deceased status.

Why wouldn’t they have told us that Strahovski was coming back—especially since she was alive the last time we saw her? It is possible she could show up in a flashback to the years Harrison spent with her in Argentina, but we’ll have to wait and see if that happens.
