Tubi adds The Silence of the Lambs for December
By Carla Davis
Tubi is beloved by horror fans due to its never-ending collection of great, often obscure horror offerings. For December, Tubi has added even more horror, thriller and sci-fi selections to watch for free.
Horror additions to Tubi in December:
Black Christmas (2006 version) – Starring Michelle Trachtenberg (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Lacey Chabert (Mean Girls, every Hallmark Christmas movie ever made), this remake of the iconic 1974 holiday horror original is mostly a pretty good watch. A group of sorority sisters is menaced by a prank phone call-making psycho with a bonkers back story.
I consider the OG Black Christmas to be the horror movie that made me love horror movies, and I appreciated the homages to my beloved. They even cast Andrea Martin, who played Phyl, as the house mother! Though they lost me in the final third of the film with some odd swerves, I still enjoy re-watching this one. Wish I could say the same about the 2019 reboot.
Jennifer’s Body – Megan Fox plays Jennifer, a gorgeous, popular high schooler in an unlikely friendship with Amanda Seyfried’s nerdy, insecure Anita. When Jennifer becomes possessed and murderous, Anita is torn between protecting her friend and stopping the bloodshed.
Slither – When a meteorite lands in South Carolina, a parasitic creature takes over the body of Grant (Michael Rooker). Grant begins to transform, but the monster inside him absorbs his love for his wife Starla (Elizabeth Banks). As Grant’s transformation advances, it seems like the town may be taken over by the hideous creatures.
Teeth – Teenage Dawn (Jess Weixler) regularly attends Christian abstinence meetings, and is a proponent of “purity rings.” When the repressed Dawn is sexually assaulted by a friend, she finds out that her genitals have a very special power for destruction.
The Hills Have Eyes (2006 version) – This better-than-average remake is brutally violent, but then again, so was the original version. A family traveling through the desert is stranded, and ends up being hunted by mutant cannibals. After the initial shock wears off, the remaining family members fight back with a vengeance.
The Last Exorcism – Cotton Marcus is a disillusioned reverend who regularly performs fake exorcisms. When a farmer contacts him in the hopes he can exorcise the demon who has taken over his daughter Nell, Marcus expects more of the same, but instead finds himself facing what may be a very real case of possession.
Queen of the Damned – The vampire Lestat (from Interview With the Vampire) becomes the lead singer for a hard rock band, and his music awakens the very first vampire, Akasha (played by Aaliyah, in her final role).
Sci-Fi and Thrillers coming to Tubi in December:
Alien vs. Predator: Requiem – In this sequel to Alien vs. Predator, a ship crashes in Colorado, unleashing an Alien/Predator hybrid (known as a Predalien). A Predator hunts down the hybrid, as the townspeople fight for their lives.
Carrie – Sissy Spacek plays the title character in this film, based on the novel by Stephen King. Poor Carrie is a teenager tormented by her peers, and borderline abused by her religious fanatic mother. But, Carrie possesses telekinesis, and her deadly powers are awakened when a prank goes horribly wrong at her prom.
Searching – This 2018 film is presented entirely through computers and phones, as a sort of sub-genre to found footage. David (John Cho) is still grieving the death of his wife, and is often too distracted to know what is going on in the life of his teenage daughter Margot. When Margot disappears, David begins to investigate, starting with her computer.
Swordfish – Hugh Jackman plays Stanley, a master hacker who once infected the FBI’s computer program with a virus. One of the terms of his parole is that he is not allowed to use a computer or the internet. When John Travolta’s Gabriel threatens him into cracking the server for the Defense Department, Stanley finds himself in deep trouble.
The Long Kiss Goodnight – Samantha Caine was found washed ashore on a beach, with amnesia. She was also pregnant, and eight years later, she still has no memory of her past. Now a schoolteacher, Samantha lives an unassuming life with her boyfriend and daughter. But all that changes when she is in a car accident and suffers a concussion. Afterwards, she realizes that she possesses some pretty crazy skills with a knife. It just gets crazier from there.
The Silence of the Lambs – You would have to be living under a rock to not be familiar with the story of FBI trainee Clarice Starling (Jodi Foster). When Jack Crawford assigns her to interview the notorious killer Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins), Starling finds herself pulled into the hunt for serial killer “Buffalo Bill”, who has kidnapped the daughter of US senator Ruth Martin.
The Terminator – Possibly Arnold Schwarzenegger’s best known role was in this 1984 film. A cyborg assassin is sent back in time in order to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), in the hopes it will prevent her son from saving humankind from extinction. Michael Biehn plays a Resistance fighter, who is also sent back in time to protect Sarah.
