Stephen King fans are the target audience for Castle Rock, a show that is entirely set in King’s universe and rife with easter eggs and references to his many works. Unfortunately, the series only ran for two seasons with the first season focusing on Shawshank and the town of Castle Rock itself, which has been a setting in several of King’s works.

Season 2 switched gears to set up the iconic character of Annie Wilkes from Misery, with Lizzy Caplan playing a younger version of the character. The third season is rumored to have been more about Salem’s Lot, but sadly we never got to see it. Regardless, Castle Rock is still a really strong horror series with excellent acting and since it’s more or less an anthology series you can watch both seasons to get a complete story in both instances.

Castle Rock is obviously designed to appease the most diehard of King fans, so casual viewers might find it a little more challenging to get invested but if you do love King’s books then this is an absolute must-watch.
