When news of a Chucky TV series was first released, some fans were curious about how that would work in tandem with the long-running film series. Still, most were just excited to see another project in the Chucky universe with Don Mancini and Brad Dourif involved once again after the mess that was Child’s Play (2019). Thankfully, Chucky season 1 not only turned out to be a fun show, but it’s genuinely fantastic and became an instant hit with fans both new and old.

Serving as a direct sequel to Cult of Chucky (2013) and a soft reboot of the franchise, Mancini managed to make the show enjoyable for long-time fans while also allowing a new generation to hop on board without feeling in over their heads. The first season of the freshman SYFY series wrapped recently, but thankfully the show has already been renewed for a second season. It’s not all that surprising considering how popular the show has become since launching this past October.

Chucky takes place in Hackensack, New Jersey and begins with 14-year-old Jake Wheeler (Zackary Arthur) purchasing what he believes is an ordinary vintage Good Guy doll at a yard sale. Of course, it doesn’t take long for Jake to realize there is a lot more to the doll than he initially believed.
