20 new and returning horror shows to watch out for in 2022
With 2021 coming to an end it’s time to start looking forward to 2022, and all the new horror shows the year will bring with it. From brand new shows like Netflix’s Archive 81 to returning favorites like Syfy’s Chucky season two 2022 is looking to be a great year for horror fans.
New horror shows: Archive 81
Loosely based on the podcast of the same name, Archive 81 is a found-footage series that follows archivist Dan Turner (Mamoudou Athie) who takes a job restoring old video tapes from 1994. Dan finds himself reconstructing the work of documentary journalist Melody Pendras (Dina Shihabi) and her investigation into a dangerous cult. After being drawn into this investigation Dan begins to believe he can save Melody from the terrifying end she met 25 years ago.
Every episode of Archive 81 will release on Netflix on January 14th.
Returning horror shows: American Horror Story
American Horror Story will return with its eleventh series in 2022. In April 2021 Ryan Murphy conducted a Twitter poll asking viewers what stories they would like to see, the options included; aliens, Christmas horror, Bloody Mary, Piggy Man, sirens, or plague. There has yet to be any confirmation which of these, if any, the new series will focus on, or which cast members will return to the show.
American Horror Story season 11 will likely air on FX in fall 2022.
New horror shows: Cabinet of Curiosities
The horror anthology series from Oscar-winner Guillermo del Toro promises to be a “macabre mashup of genre-defining horror.” Each episode will tell a different story and feature a new cast, writer and director. The first episode is set to be written and directed by Jennifer Kent (The Babadook) and will star Essie Davis, Andrew Lincoln and Hanna Galway.
Cabinet of Curiosities is set to release on Netflix sometime in 2022.
Returning horror shows: Alice In Borderland
It’s been a year since the first season of Alice in Borderland released on Netflix, and viewers may still have to wait till the end of 2022 for the new installment of the series. Based on the manga series of the same name, it is unclear whether Netflix will remain loyal to the source material or take the story in another direction.
Alice In Borderland is expected to release on Netflix in November/December 2022.
