Alien Encounters Collection to invade Shudder in July
By Carla Davis
Shudder has something fun in store for subscribers in recognition of the 75th anniversary of the Roswell UFO incident. The horror streaming platform will be introducing their Alien Encounters collection in July.
The new Shudder collection will include the following alien invasion films:
They Live – Roddy Piper is Nada, a drifter who swipes a pair of sunglasses possessing a very special power. When Nada wears the glasses, he can see subliminal messages in advertising, and he also discovers that many high-ranking people are in reality, evil aliens. It’s up to Nada and his buddy Frank (Keith David) to stop the aliens from taking over the world.
The Thing – John Carpenter’s 1982 sci-fi/horror classic was met with tepid reviews when it was released, but found huge success on home video, and is now a beloved cult classic. Kurt Russell, Wilfred Brimley and Keith David are among the actors playing a team of researchers stuck in an Antarctic research station with an alien who can take on the shape of any creature.
Dark Angel – Joanne Froggat (Downton Abbey) plays Mary Ann Cotton, who was an English serial killer in the 1800s. Though only convicted of the poisoning of her stepson, she is believed to have also murdered 11 of her 13 children and three of her four husbands.
Invaders From Mars – Young David and his Dad enjoy stargazing together, but all of that changes when David sees a spaceship land. Dad goes out to investigate, but returns changed. David tries to warn his family and friends, but is it too late?
Lifeforce – The crew of a space shuttle discover a spaceship hidden inside Halley’s Comet, and decide to bring back the life forms found inside: a strange bat-like creature and three humanoids who appear to be in suspended animation. This turns out to be a bad decision.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) – Donald Sutherland, Brook Adams, Veronica Cartwright, Leonard Nimoy and Jeff Goldblum star in this
classic tale of pods from outer space. As Matthew and Elizabeth begin to realize the pods are killing and cloning humans, time is already running out.
Planet of the Vampires – Master of Italian Horror Mario Bava directed this horrifying tale of astronauts who crash land on another planet. The alien vampires on the planet begin to possess the astronauts in an attempt to reach Earth.
Without Warning – Teens on a camping trip in the mountains are in over their heads when jellyfish-like alien creatures begin to kill them off one by one. They end up fighting for their lives alongside Martin Landau and Jack Palance.
The Deadly Spawn (begins streaming on Shudder July 6) – This 1983 classic introduces us to more crash landed aliens. This time, the deadly creatures take up residence in a basement, terrorizing the family. The Deadly Spawn has never before been available to stream, so watch it on Shudder while you can.
